John Carmack Will Still Speak At QuakeCon (If He's Allowed To)

Sat 1 Feb 2014 - 21:53

Back in November of 2013 John Carmack officially left ID software in order to devote more time to the production of the Oculus Rift, though now that QuakeCon is coming around again this year it begs the question; What will Carmack do?

At least on Carmack's side we have a pretty definitive answer from his earlier tweet:

Carmack

It would be really strange for Carmack to not give his traditional talk on something involving game development, but at this point it's more up to Bethesda, Zenimax, or the group that actively runs the con itself.

If you're interested in going to Quake con either to see John Carmack speak or just to have some LAN gaming fun it's totally free to go to and it's happening from July 17-20.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Contains Lightning Returns DLC

Sat 1 Feb 2014 - 16:34

Those of you who purchased a PS3 copy of the HD remake of Final Fantasy X and X-2 will receive bonus DLC for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

Specifically, fans who bought the remake will get a costume pack containing Yuna's outfit from Final Fantasy X, her staff, a shield resembling the one she used in the game, and her victory pose. These items can be used in Schemas in Lightning Returns that Lightning can wield in battle.

In may just be me, but while I appreciate the fan-service in this move, I'm weirded out by badass warrior Lightning using Yuna's rather diminutive pose. Although, perhaps that's the humor of the whole thing.

Lucario Smashes into Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS

Sat 1 Feb 2014 - 16:25

lucario

Well I don't think I was the only one who thought Lucario would be replaced, especially with Mega Mewtwo around. But it has been confirmed by the official Smash Brothers website that Lucario will be returning in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS....I still really hope that the title is a work in progress. There are also several really cool pictures of Lucario on his page, I wish I could share them all here but you can check them out on the page

So what do you think about Lucario returning in the latest Smash Bros? Let us know below

PlayStation Plus Announced Free February Games Lineup

Sat 1 Feb 2014 - 16:17

On the official PlayStation YouTube channel, Sony released a video detailing what games will be coming free to PlayStation Plus subscribers this month.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=027Mg5cBMc8&feature=em-uploademail

PS4 Owners will be getting survival-horror game Outlast to add to their collection.

PS3 Owners will receive post-apocalyptic shooter Metro: Last Light, multiplayer heist game Payday 2 for free, and cyberpunk memory-masher Remember Me.

Vita users get access to fighter mash-up Street Fighter X Tekken and ModNation Racers: Road Trip.

As always, this is a fairly impressive haul to receive for one subscription fee. I am personally pretty impressed by Sony's ability to get all these games to PS Plus subscribers. Are there any games on this list you've been interested in? Let us know in the comments below.

Iwata is cutting back his salary due to financial issues

Fri 31 Jan 2014 - 03:46

Nintendo is in hot water there is no denying that. For the third year in a row Nintendo has been operating at a loss. Although they have been selling software like crazy, Nintendo is struggling with Wii U sales. Not even with titles like Wii U Party or Super Mario 3D World, the console has currently dropped 36 percent.

In response to the financial situation, Nintendo’s president, Satoru Iwata, has told reporters that he would be cutting his salary in half for the next five months. Iwata is not the only member who is taking the cut. There are other board members are going to be taking 20 to 30 percent reduction in their paychecks.

It is apparent that Nintendo needs to change something and quick, but until they can figure it out Nintendo will continue to push the Wii U. It is nice to see the higher-ups taking a slash out of their paychecks for this financial situation, but this can only save their budgets by so much.

Nintendo Plans to License Characters to 3rd Party Companies

Thu 30 Jan 2014 - 23:30

nintendo characters

Well you know Nintendo is desperate now. As long as I can remember Nintendo characters have only ever been on Nintendo consoles. Now however it seems with Nintendo looking into new financial strategies, they're willing to try a lot. From experimenting with smartphones to this apparently. Personally I'm hoping that this leads to more amazing crossover type games like Hyrule Warriors, or maybe getting Mario to appear in a fighting game as a special guest, like Link did on the Gamecube version of Soul Calibur 3.

In a strategic Q&A Satoru Iwata revealed that Nintendo is already discussing new licencing deals with a few potential new partners, though he did say that Nintendo will remain competitive so don't expect "Super Mario PlayStation" to be coming out anytime soon. Though it does get my hopes up for more games like I mentioned before.

None of these new partners have been named but this is definitely something to be excited about if you're a Nintendo fan like myself. Depending on how this goes we could be seeing some of our favourite characters in some new and exciting scenarios, and Nintendo will start making some extra cash on the side to bring us more amazing titles!
