Epic Games Auctioning Signed Lancer Replicas To Help Insomniac Intern After Hit And Run

Tue 19 Nov 2013 - 00:00

In a very sad bit of gaming news, Insomniac Games artist intern Ana Kessel just recently lost her leg in a hit-and-run. With her medical bills being extraordinary high, the guys and girls at Epic Games have stepped up to help her out by auctioning off autographed Gears of War Lancer replicas on ebay.

Each of the three pages has a description as follows:

"All proceeds from this auction will be going to help with Ana Kessel's medical bills.  She was an intern at Insomniac Games, a local video game company here in the triangle area, who was recently involved in a hit and run accident while on her scooter.  She has been in the hospital since Monday, and had to have one of her legs amputated.  Without having medical insurance, the financial burden will be immense, which is why I am auctioning off a few pieces of memorabilia from our video game.  Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this auction."

If you'd would like make a bid on one or more of these, you can do so for the standard one here, the retro lancer here, and/or the gold lancer here.

If you would rather send money directly to Ana, you can do so at her GoFundMe campaign posted here. I'm sure any amount would be greatly appriciated.

Dust: An Elysian Tail Heads to GoG

Thu 7 Nov 2013 - 19:57

Given that you are a viewer of this site, you probably are interested in both gaming and the furry fandom. With that in mind, it's fairly safe to assume that you've at least heard of Dust: An Elysian Tail. Originally released on the 360, Dean Dodrill's first release has been making waves. In order to allow more people to play it, the game was eventually ported to the PC and has been available on Steam for quite some time.

But let's say that you have an vehement anti-DRM stance and don't want to support Steam as a result. Well, you're in luck. It has recently been announced that Dust: An Elysian Tail is now on GoG. GoG has a hardline stance against all forms of DRM. All that you need to do is purchase a game and download it from their servers. Those who act now will receive it at 50% off it's $14.99 price point.

I must say that this is a very well-made game. Mr. Dodrill also went to great lengths to ensure that the PC port is solid. As a furry gamer, you owe it to yourself to check this out if you haven't already. There aren't any more excuses.

Ubisoft Considers Beyond Good & Evil a “Mistake”

Wed 6 Nov 2013 - 19:43

Though Beyond Good & Evil is now considered to be a cult classic, this was not always the case. Despite critic acclaim, the game did not sell as many units as other games of the platforming genre did in the PS2 era. However, those that did play the game have been begging for Ubisoft to make sequel. This has continued for years, and still goes on to this day.

Unfortunately for those fans, recent statements from Ubisoft make the possibility of a sequel seem less and less likely. When speaking to GamesIndustry International, creative director of Child of Light Patrick Plourde said that while pitching an idea for a turn-based game, the bosses at Ubisoft were hesitant. The cited reason is that they wanted to avoid another “mistake” like Beyond Good & Evil.

I can understand Ubisoft's hesitation to do something like that again. Beyond Good & Evil simply didn't sell. However, as someone who played the game myself, I'm with the fans who want a sequel. Overtime, the game has become so well-known that I think a sequel will do well. Since I'm not paying Ubisoft's bills, that's easy for me to say. Did you guys play Beyond Good and Evil? If so, what do you think? Comment below with your thoughts.

Churbles - A Beautiful 3D RPG Adventure

Thu 24 Oct 2013 - 01:00

Churbles. No I didn't sneeze, that’s the name of this adorable looking game being kickstarted by the indie studio CrashGem. They describe the game in the following quote.

"Churbles is a fantasy simulation RPG focusing on the heroic efforts of adorably tough hamsters, slated for a 2014 release on PC, MAC, and Linux. A Churble is an adorably tough hamster, sporting magical powers and elemental affinities. They reside in an underground world of diverse biomes, elemental nodes, exotic locales and fortified communities—all interconnected by a series of endless tunnels and tubes. This is a world fraught with perilous dangers and hungry monsters; the Churbles fight hard to defend their homes and expand their colonies, but they could really use your help. Their world in peril, you must choose one Churble to become a legendary hero. Together you will quest for resources, glory, and fame; all while expanding the size and scope of your colony, recruiting heroes to your cause, and thwarting vile plots and sinister villains."

Churbles 2

Now if that doesn't sell you on it right away I don't know what will. Well maybe the turn based combat system, awesome character customization, or wide array of classes and weapons with "over 63 possible combinations" will. The game will also feature 2-3 player local co-op. Can't get that in your Final Fantasy now can you?

Churbles 3

Ok I hear some of you out there saying "yeah that all sounds great but I'll believe it when I see it." Ok here's the trailer.

{youtube}K6oswsUhHyA{/youtube}

There now you should be fully convinced of the awesomeness of this project. So go visit their Kickstarter and throw some money at this to help it become a reality. I just pledged $15 myself. They also have a PayPal option for those who don’t have an Amazon account. While you're setting up your payment you can also follow the game on Twitter and Facebook, and while you're on those sites anyways you can also follow Gaming Furever on Twitter and Facebook if you're not already.

Killer Instinct's Training Mode Detailed

Wed 23 Oct 2013 - 15:55

Killer Instinct's training mode is turning out to be something to behold. Double Helix is going all-out with the usual things seen in training modes, with an AI that fights back, the ability to test out new moves, and button combos. One of the kickers here is that KI will allow you to make hitboxes visible, along with frame data. Frame data will allow you to see the start up, active, and recovery frames for each action.

In addition, KI will have a new difficulty mode called "Kyle" mode. This mode is named after one of the game's devs who is apparently a god of the game. There's also a difficulty setting that allows the AI to automatically perform combo breakers against any attack you do.

For more details on Killer Instinct's many training mode settings and options, head on over to EventHub, who has an exclusive look at the game.

New Sonic cartoon announced for 2014

Thu 3 Oct 2013 - 01:43

Sega has announced that it has teamed up with Genao Productions to bring a brand new Sonic Cartoon called Sonic Boom! The cartoon has an initial order of fifty-two episodes that will be roughly eleven minuets long much like Adventure Time or Regular Show. So far the show is said to follow Sonic and Tails as they search for adventure and fight against long time nemesis, Dr. Eggman. Due to the released teaser image, it looks like Knuckles and Amy will be in the show as well. I'm not to sure what to think of the shadows of Sonic and Knuckles, but it has been a long time since the last time we had a sonic cartoon. Check out the Sega Blog for more information!

Valiant Hearts: The Great War - features WWI Stories, Medic Dog

Tue 10 Sep 2013 - 19:15

Ubisoft introduced a new game at their "Digital Day" event, titled Valiant Hearts: The Great War. It's a goosebump-inducing, potentially emotion-filled adventure game about six strangers finding themselves and each other among the trenches of World War I. The game is partly based on real-world letters a developer of the game's great grandfather received and sent during the war. It follows the group on individual journeys that lead them on a 2D Puzzle Adventure with a (hopefully) poignant story, beautiful art, and moving soundtrack.

Laika Believes Gets Funded

Thu 1 Aug 2013 - 19:56

laikabelievesfunded

Earlier I had reported on "Laika Believes: The Sun at Night" an episodic 2D action game featuring Russia's first doggy astronaut in an alternate history. Earlier the folks at Minicore Studios behind the game were seeking to raise an additional $100,000 from Kickstarter to fund the project. Well some good news has come in as Minicore has received private funding according to an official statement from the fundraiser's official page. Minicore CEO John Warran gave the following statement.

"Not too long after our Kickstarter launched we reached a deal to privately fund major aspects of remaining development for Laika Believes. We didn't get those details finalized until last week, so we wanted to keep the Kickstarter up in case something different happened. This might leave you asking: "well why did you start a Kickstarter if you were trying to privately fund the game?"

A few quick notes. Aside from lots of design duties, my job is to make sure we can continue development of what we're working on. This means, essentially, always being open to different funding sources. At the time our Kickstarter campaign launched, Kickstarter was our best option. We're happy to be funded no matter what, but it was rather unexpected that we'd be able to privately fund what we were asking for. However, we're not at all regretful that we started out with this campaign, because because meeting and getting to talk to folks excited about Laika Believes is awesome."

Not long after this statement Minicore explains further plans for Laika Believes and has started another Kickstarter in the hopes of raising $20,000 more for the purposes of further enhancing the game's sound design and looking into localization for numerous territories given that the game has shown a good amount of appeal from players all over the world. If Minicore can raise enough cash they plan to include language options for Russian and Spanish with others to follow. There are also rumors that Minicore may attempt to bring Laika Believes to consoles given the recent developments with Xbox One and Microsoft's descision to self publish.

Currently Minicore plans to bring Laika Believes to the PC with no release date currently set. As always I'll keep my ears perked for more news and developments of this exciting looking game.

Thu 11 Jul 2013 - 16:43

Ratchet & Clank return this holiday season with a brand new original single-player epilogue to the Future games. Under the creative direction of Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time creative director Brian Allgeier, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is a story-driven platform adventure, and should include the humor and heart we know and love.

As you can see from the trailer below, Into the Nexus has a bunch of crazy new weapons and gadgets. Gravity is one of the themes of Into the Nexus: you’ll experience zero-g space, you’ll use gravity-defying new gadgets, and you’ll manipulate gravity to solve brand new Clank puzzles.

First Dog in Space Gets a Game!

Thu 27 Jun 2013 - 01:21

LaikaBelieves

Back in November 3rd 1957 Russian scientist of the Soviet Union sent the first dog into space which they named Laika. More than half a century later and the first canine cosmonaut now gets her own game developed by Minicore Studios and set to release on “multiple platforms”. The game’s full title “Laika Believes: The Sun at Night” is being described as an episodic 2D action platformer. Don’t expect this to be historically accurate as the game pits Laika against a Soviet controlled world. Don’t take my word for it, just take a look at the developer’s synopsis.

Rusty Pup coming to Wii U, from Conker's Bad Fur Day Creator

Sun 23 Jun 2013 - 01:10

rustypupnews

Chris Seavor, creator of Conker's Bad Fur Day, has been working with his new company "Gory Detail" for a while. They released their first title, Parashoot Stan, on iOS last year, and have just announced their next title. "The Unlikely Legend of Rusty Pup" will be coming to the Wii U and 3DS eShop "sometime in 2014." Both Chris and ex-Rare developer Shawn Pile talked to Nintendo Life about the new game, explaining exactly what kind of feel can be expected:

"It's all very much about the story," says Seavor. "It's a very sad tale. It's not dark as in 'mature' — it's not got swearing in it, or anything like that. It's quite a serious and adult story, but still a fun and hopefully playable game with lots going on. There will be moments of dark humour, but nothing gory."

The game will be a 2D platformer with hints of Lemmings thrown in, and the team seems to be focusing on making sure this isn't another 30-second fling like many other games of the time:

"The character is becoming the important thing," Seavor explains. "You're caring about this character. There are added elements which make it quite like a virtual pet game, a nurture game — you've got this character you want to keep alive. Rather than you're controlling him to get from A to B, you're controlling everything else to make sure that he doesn't die. Within that framework, you've got your traditional kind of gameplay — platforms that move, monsters that get out of the way, monsters which don't — but Rusty always has a relationship with you. You're the narrator. So in that way, it's like a God game — it's not strictly a God game, but it's got narration and this mysterious figure — which is you. I'm going to do some little twists and turns with the logic of the story, so there's a reason for the character to be there. It's not like Angry Birds or Jetpack Joyride — there's a reason this character is here. He just doesn't seem to know why."

We can't wait to see what they produce, and we'll keep you updated here on GF!
