Call Of Duty: Ghosts Wolf Skin DLC Is Coming

Wed 11 Dec 2013 - 01:00
Ghosts Wolf Skin DLC Is Coming

Somehow I always seem to get stuck with the Call of Duty news, though that may be in part because I'm the only one on staff who even remotely enjoys it.

With that in mind I think Activision is actively trying to make me hate their game with with one of the most shameless cash-ins I've seen in quite some time. For a measly 4 US Dollars, you will soon be able to buy a piece of downloadable content that allows you to skin your dog in multiplayer to be a gray wolf. It doesn't skin Riley in singleplayer and said multiplayer dog is only unlocked as a companion when you get a killstreak. Theorectically it also only comes in one color/variant, so there's really nothing to it. That and it's still $4.

Even if you're an avid player of Call of Duty, bear in mind that 4 whole dollars can buy you a charity game bundle pack, an indie game or two, or a cup of coffee from Starbucks; all of which will likely be more appealing that a dog skin.

It should also really be noted that this is merely a rumor at this point, as Activision has not come out and said whether or not this is true. Who knows? Maybe it could be $5.

Skullgirls To Be Pulled From PSN & XBL

Tue 10 Dec 2013 - 00:00

skullgirls announceimage 01

Its seems like the developers of Skullgirls can never catch a break. This time around it's due to the recent split of Lab Zero (The developers) and Konami, who helped to publish the game on both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Unknown to the even the CEO right up until he was notified by Sony, Konami requested the game to be removed from both consoles marketplaces.

Currently Lab Zero is doing everything they can to put out a new version of the game for PSN (and likely XBL as well), but they're under some serious time pressure.

A designer was quoted as saying, "If it doesn't [get approved], Skullgirls is going to disappear until everybody comes back from winter break. Sony's QA goes home on the 17th, which means we have to give this to them immediately."

The only reason I could see Konami taking down the game would be because their logo is on it or because they won't be making any future money in it, but I don't know for sure; I don't know the politics of developers and publishers very well.

CEO Of EA Says People Need DLC To Retain Interest

Fri 6 Dec 2013 - 00:02

The still relatively new CEO of Electronic Arts, Andrew Wilson, has been making some waves lately with his public statements, sparking conversations left and right, and his newest one will likely continue the discussions.

"You would think if you play the game for five weeks and then put it away, by the time the next version come around, you would have an appetite that would have build up over the last 10, 11 months to play that game again," Wilson said. "And actually, the reverse is true. The closer we can get you in terms of engagement to the next launch, the greater propensity you have to purchase."

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus rated by PEGI for PS Vita

Thu 5 Dec 2013 - 01:00
Into the Nexus rated by PEGI for PS Vita

"Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus" was rated yesterday by PEGI for PS Vita release.

PEGI 7

The European rating board gave the game an age rating of 7, which would be simmilar to the ESRB rating of E or E10+.

Into the Nexus was released in Europe for the PS3 back in November but was overshadowed by the PS4 and Xbox One who were both released within a few days of it.

"Some of you have asked us why we made a shorter Ratchet game," Insomniac said earlier this year. "The truth is, we relished this ability to tie a bow on the PS3 era of Ratchet with a shorter title.

"We have a lot of stories to tell, some longer, some shorter. This one felt just right. It's a very polished self-contained return to the Ratchet adventures of yore."

Into the Nexus is an epolouge of Ratchet and Clank's "future series" which consists of "Tools of Destruction","Quest For Booty" and "A Crack in Time".

Original Voice Actor for Tails Dies at 48 [Update: He's not dead]

Wed 4 Dec 2013 - 22:44

UPDATE: Turns out, it wasn't the voice actor that died, just a guy with the exact same name.

Christopher Evans Welch, the original voice actor for Miles "Tails" Prower from the "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" TV series, passed on earlier this week.

The voice over artist died in an L.A. hospital following a short illness. He was 48 years old.

His work as Tails was his first ever TV role, starting in 1993. His later film credits include the narrator in Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona", as well as roles in "Synecdoche", "NY" and Sydney Pollack's "The Interpreter".

Prior to his death he was shooting a role in the upcoming HBO series "Silicon Valley".

Persona 4 Golden Sells 700k Units Worldwide

Wed 4 Dec 2013 - 20:50

It seems like over the past week or so I've been either talking about Persona, hearing about Persona, or thinking about Persona. With that in mind, it's fitting that I'm here to write up another story regarding the beloved franchise, and luckily for everyone involved it's some positive news. Persona 4 Golden for the Playstation Vita has sold over 700,000 units worldwide!

While it may not seem like a lot in the context of AAA titles like Call of Duty who sell millions of units in a day, most ATLUS games are consider an amazing success if they break half a million. They already did so with Persona 4 for the PS2, and now they've done it again for the Vita.

ATLUS is celebrating this by discounting the digital version in the japanese Playstatino Store, but sadly there's no news about a similar price drop on the english version.

I'll leave this by saying that if you haven't played Persona 4 before and your a big fan of JRPGs, it's well worth it. Even if you're not a huge fan, there's still much to love with the story and characters. I reccomend to everyone.

Have you played P4 or P4G before? If so, what did you think about it? If not, any reason that you haven't picked it up yet?

Dogs Get "Furry" update on Call of Duty: Ghosts

Wed 4 Dec 2013 - 01:00

Y'know what we need more of in Call of Duty: Ghosts? Fur. There just isn't enough of it. Dynamic, flowing, realistic, PC-only fur. Well HOLD ONTO YOUR TAILS, FOLKS! With the newest update for Ghosts comes the addition of "Dynamic Fur Simulation." The stability update allows for "Re-enabled fur and smoke DLLs from nVidia." This is possible since PC versions of the game now support nVidia's PhysX and Apex technologies. Luckily, reports say that even if you don't have an nVidia card, you can still simulate most of the effects.

This Dynamic Fur Simulation allows fur to react realistically to the environment. All dogs in the game will now have this technology. Enjoy your new furry coats, canines! There's a video below:

The Walking Dead: Season 2 Is Bringing An Old Friend With It's Release

Tue 3 Dec 2013 - 00:12

That's right everyone, it's that time of year again. Time to bust out the tissues and park yourself in front of your gaming machine of choice because the Telltale Walking Dead series is coming back. You'll cry for the returning characters, for those who can not return, and because it has to end eventually, leaving you to wait fo the next installment.

Go ahead, try to tell me I'm wrong.

Anyway, while on the topic of returns, according to the Telltale Games Twitter, "A familiar face returns in The Walking Dead Season 2 premire episode "All That Remains," releasing this month."

The tweet is accompanied by a photo of Cementine and Omid (From episode 3 onward) walking to a gas station.

There's not much to take from this other than Omid is coming back to the series, so if you're a fan of him, then there's that.

The first episode of season 2 will drop a month from now, so we'll just have to wait and see for what other secrets and reveals Telltale has up their collective sleeves.

Activision Still Owns Crash Bandicoot's Immortal Soul

Tue 26 Nov 2013 - 16:14

A few weeks back, the official Crash Bandicoot website, which I didn't know still existed, was taken down by Activision. As a result, speculation regarding the franchise's fate quickly spread amongst fans. This was further fueled by a still-frame from a recently released trailer promoting the PlayStation 4 (seen below on the left side, with an alleged deconstruction on the right):

635831

The gestalt of these combined facts led people to believe that Sony may have acquired the rights to what was once an unofficial mascot of the PlayStation brand. Unfortunately, my fellow Crash fans should prepare to be disappointed. A representative speaking on Activision's behalf has confirmed that the Crash Bandicoot franchise is still firmly in their hands.

I know that this is saddening for people, like myself, who grew up on PlayStation. Though my earliest gaming memories are of the NES and SNES, the PlayStation dominated my formative gaming years. Crash Bandicoot was one of those games I could never tried of. I don't actually care which company owns the right to Crash Bandicoot. The only reason I cared about this story is that it meant there MIGHT be a chance for the orange marsupial to make a return. The last game in the franchise was from 2008, and that was Mind Over Mutant. It's about time for a return to form. Any of you Crash fans out there also disappointed by this? Let us know in the comments.

Call Of Duty Ghosts Lowers System Requirements; Still Ridiculous

Thu 21 Nov 2013 - 02:55

Among the many outlandish minimum requirements Call of Duty Ghosts had when it first released, one of them was that it required (read: would not run without), 6GB of RAM. Just today some of the team lowered the minimum threshold to just 4GB, even though it's been tested and shown before that at most it only ever requires 2GB of RAM.

In addition to this there is a few other bits and pieces listed in the full patch notes, such as support for 4K resolutions; I wouldn't advise it since the game looks bad enough as is.

I really still don't understand why Infinity Ward and Activision are so adamant about raising the requirements for COD to far beyond what is necessary, other than the idea that they don't care about the PC market.

If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them, and if you've been playing the game on PC, how's it been?

Black Mesa Coming To Steam With A Pricetag; Free Version Will Still Be Available

Thu 21 Nov 2013 - 02:30

Beginning as a free version of the first Half Life game with update visuals, the small team working on it has come quite a long way in terms of gaining popularity with it's initial release. Just recently they were allowed access to the full source engine along with best wishes from Valve, and they've decided to release a new, paid-for version to the steam store soon enough with said updated version coming free "sometime in the future".

With the news of paying to play the game, the team had this to say:

"Our decision to sell Black Mesa rests on two key points," writes the team. "One is we believe we can make the game even better by having full access to the Source engine. This lets us tackle and fix limitations instead of working around them. The second is because frankly, our team could really use the financial help."

In addition they the paid version would go for "a relatively low price".

The Atlus Teaser Site Is Most Definitely About Persona

Wed 20 Nov 2013 - 03:05

UPDATE:

It looks as though the the reveal may have already been spoiled, as the resume of the english voice actor for Nanoko, Karen Strassman, has listed the games "Persona 4 Vol. 2" and "Golden 2 Persona 4". Could it be a direct sequel? Looks like we'll find out this Sunday.

PERSONA!

That's right everyone, Atlus is at it again with yet another Persona game in the works; at least if this teaser site is to be believed. If you go to the teaser site that went up just a little while ago called http://p-ch.jp/, you'll see a few blank boxes and a date in huge lettering reading "20:00, SUN, 11.14, 2013" along with some cities labled below.

Now if you mash you mouse button on any of the pictures, it'll reveal a shadow that, after a few seconds, show's you the real surpise. Teddy has returned, and that brings up a few questions. Persona 4 has already been released on PS2 some years ago, and it's been released on the PSVita more recently, so what does this mean? An HD revamp of Persona 4 for the PS4? A direct sequel (which would be the first time for the Persona sub series)? Is Atlus just pulling our leg? All of them are equally possible I'd imagine.

In my opinion I'd be a little bummed out if it was either of the first two ideas. Not because I don't like Persona 4, I love it quite a bit, but because I want Atlus to continue the tradition of making a completly new story with new characters and concepts with each new entry.

If anything does happen at the appointed time, we'll be sure to update this post or make a new one with whatever new information we recieve.

So I'd like to know, do you agree with me about about having completely new game each time? Or do you want a sequel to Persona 4?

Any ideas on what the teaser might be? Tell me in the comments below.

Epic Games Auctioning Signed Lancer Replicas To Help Insomniac Intern After Hit And Run

Tue 19 Nov 2013 - 00:00

In a very sad bit of gaming news, Insomniac Games artist intern Ana Kessel just recently lost her leg in a hit-and-run. With her medical bills being extraordinary high, the guys and girls at Epic Games have stepped up to help her out by auctioning off autographed Gears of War Lancer replicas on ebay.

Each of the three pages has a description as follows:

"All proceeds from this auction will be going to help with Ana Kessel's medical bills.  She was an intern at Insomniac Games, a local video game company here in the triangle area, who was recently involved in a hit and run accident while on her scooter.  She has been in the hospital since Monday, and had to have one of her legs amputated.  Without having medical insurance, the financial burden will be immense, which is why I am auctioning off a few pieces of memorabilia from our video game.  Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this auction."

If you'd would like make a bid on one or more of these, you can do so for the standard one here, the retro lancer here, and/or the gold lancer here.

If you would rather send money directly to Ana, you can do so at her GoFundMe campaign posted here. I'm sure any amount would be greatly appriciated.
