Fender, now under new ownership

Furry art gallery Fur Affinity announced a change in ownership this Wednesday, with founder and original site coder Alkora Husky selling the site to its lead administrator, The Dragoneer (also known as Preyfar).[1]

"Today, Alkora and I came to an agreement and inked the deal. We have officially transferred ownership of Fur Affinity to me," The Dragoneer remarked on his FurAffinity journal today, announcing the sale of the site. "It's been a long road, and Alkora and I have weathered quite a lot together side by side, and will continue to do so well into the future."[2]

Site founder Alkora replied on his own journal, saying "I am confident in [Dragoneer's] ability to manage FA. He has proven himself to be an invaluable asset to the website and the FA community." Alkora cited pursuit of college studies and other commitments as reasons to sell the site, mentioning that he "will still be around here."[3]

The event was widely publicised

It was the battle of the fandoms on September 29th, 2007 when Atlanta furries took on a challenge by local Trekkies in Furries vs. Klingons, a bowling competition held in Atlanta, Georgia between a group of furries and two local Star Trek fan clubs.

The event was organized by the USS Republic NCC-1371 (the Atlanta chapter of STARFLEET International) and the Atlanta MurrFurs. The Atlanta chapter of the Klingon Assault Group, a.k.a. KAG Atlanta, was also invited to compete. "Lucky Wolf," a member of the MurrFurs, created the poster image that billed the event, somewhat misleadingly, as "Furries vs. Klingons," despite the fact that it was actually a STARFLEET event.[1][2].

The Klingon team - most of whom appeared to be humans in regular Star Trek uniforms - emerged victorious, with a score of 32 to 27.[3] However, the furry team had far more members than the Klingons.

After the July reading of the musical Furry Tales in Pittsburgh, UK-based composer Tim Saward is staging a reading of his own musical based on the furry fandom, entitled Yiff!, which has been in development since before October 2006. [1]

The reading will be "a concert reading of 40 minutes worth of excerpts from the show",[2] and will be performed on September 27 and 29 at Goldsmiths College, New Cross, London.

As well as sixteen songs and professional musical theatre performers, the show will feature a series of animations by Australia-based furry fan Kyle Evans.

Frazzle with his ray gun at MFF 2006

The Fandom's Favorite Fursuit Fracas, a fursuit competition organized by Exile Huscoon and Rhett Foxcoon, has finished after 88 days of voting.[1]

The winner, Frazzle (created by Frazzle and Rose Quoll) beat fellow finalist Sophie Cabra (Mixed Candy) by 135 votes to 122. The semi-finalists were Takala (Arend Studios) and Lucky Coyote (Don't Hug Cacti).[2]

The contest was organized as a series of one-on-one knockout rounds, with a simple vote deciding who would proceed to the next round. Groups were formed from 16 regions, named after those fursuits entered with the most nominations. Results were calculated on the journal, and reported on WikiFur.[3][4]

Love was in the air at Mephit Furmeet 2007 as furries Butterscotch Vixen and Spectra Vixen joined paws in matrimony in a pawfasting ceremony held September 1, 2007 at 2PM, officiated by convention chairman Tyger Cowboy.[1]

The 17-minute long ceremony, written by DaliWolf, was open to their friends; who, in the handfasting tradition, came forward to bless the union by laying cords across the couple's wrists.

Several such ceremonies have taken place at a furry conventions. One of the earliest, in 1994, was the marriage of Jim and Rebekah Groat at ConFurence 5. Anthrocon gets so many requests that it now declines them.[2]

Softpaw #2: banned at Eurofurence

Eurofurence chair Cheetah has announced a ban on the sale or distribution of the erotic cub publication Softpaw Magazine at this September's convention. The announcement came just an hour after Portugese comic book artist and Softpaw contributor Dktorzi announced his intent to act as a dealer of the magazine.[1][2] German furry artist Inuki was given a similar message.[3]

Cheetah noted that the decision was based on four factors: the legal "gray area" surrounding cub pornography in Germany, the "rather diastrous[sic] conflicts within the fandom" (a reference to incidents at Fur Affinity and elsewhere), the board's wish to maintain a good reputation with the hotel and its staff, and a pre-existing ban on cub pornography in the art show. He stated that the board's decision "is final, and we will not discuss it."

Anthrocon's fursuiters accompany the entry

The 2008 edition of Guinness World Records calls Anthrocon the "largest furry fan club" in the world.

The entry describes furry fandom as "a subculture which enjoys dressing up as animals." It makes reference to Richard Adams' Watership Down, and also mentions Anthrocon's charity auction, guests of honor, and the "furries parade."[1]

While the book's description of Anthrocon as a "club" may seem odd, it has merit; Anthrocon, Inc. is a 501(c)(7) recreational club which operates a convention for its members.

The entry is slightly out of date, as it uses the Anthrocon 2006 figure of 2489, while 2849 attended the 2007 convention. The accompanying photograph is from Tugrik's Anthrocon 2006 photoshoot.[2]

Reception to the news among the furry community has been generally positive, although some took exception to the positioning of the photograph below a table of "modern mass suicides."[3][4][5]

Comic-Con International has stopped selling passes for most days amid record attendance. Only a limited number of Sunday passes remain.[1]

However, Califur Diego will still be open to San Diego area furries on Friday and Saturday at 8pm at the Horton Grand Hotel in the Gaslamp District.[2] The Horton Grand is located at 311 Island Avenue in San Diego, California 92101. Donations are welcomed by the organizers.[3]
