Meeko, a popular plush toy, now on display

New York City, USA – The Museum of Sex, which first opened in October 2002, has covered many controversial topics - from Chinese erotica and male objectification to pin-up photography and sex workers. Now they are extending their coverage to the erotic side of the furry fandom with a new exhibition: Kink: Geography of the Erotic Imagination.

Opening February 7, the show was patterned after the 2000 book Deviant Desires,[1] and features costumes, props, photographs, videos, recreated environments and original artwork from the leather, bondage and shoe fetish communities, as well as "more exotic destinations" such as ponyplay, adult babies, macrophilia, sploshing, medical play, mudlarking, body expansion - and lastly, furries.[2]

The exhibit's curator (and book author) Katharine Gates gained notoriety within the fandom for her book, as well as an interview in the Vanity Fair article Pleasures of the Fur.[3] This, along with coverage like Sex2K's Plushies and Furries, led to a tightening of media policies that remains to this day, particularly at Midwest FurFest.

Animal Friends

Anthrocon has selected local no-kill animal shelter Animal Friends as its 2007 charity.[1]

The shelter will benefit from the proceeds of Anthrocon's annual charity auction, which raised $5,845 for the Western Pennsylvania National Wild Animal Orphanage last year (the charity's total revenue was $8,400).[2] Representatives of the charity will also be available as in the dealers room.

Animal Friends, founded in 1943, places over 2,500 dogs, cats, and rabbits into homes each year. It is located on Camp Horne Road, ten minutes outside of downtown Pittsburgh.[3]

The pool "is closed" -- Splash

The Yiff Image Board (fap.yiff.com) has closed due to a lack of funding. The site's administrator, Splash, left a notice:[1]

" Fapyiff is closed. No we didn't get lawsuited, I'm just tired of paying the bill. Go to fchan. "

The image board was commonly known as "Yiff FAP", and was sometimes confused with Yiffstar's F.A.P. The site has been around since at least November 2005. It closed in October 2006 due to server maintenance, but subsequently reopened.

The board is not the first to close, or to re-open. The site currently known as Lulz.net has been down twice for extended periods, while the short-lived ChanPlz was closed by its administrators after controversy over its rejection of Do Not Post lists.[2]

Welcome to GreenReaper's con report for Midwest FurFest 2006! I was looking forward to this one. Midwest FurFest 2005 was my first furry convention - my first fan convention of any kind - and it had been exceedingly good. You can read more about it in my previous con report. Since then, though, I'd visited ConClave 31 and Anthrocon 2006, each with their own charms. Would I find MFF somewhat lacking now? Read on to find out . . .

WikiFur officially reached 5,000 articles this week. I would like to thank all of our contributors, our supporters (who aid our efforts to promote WikiFur), and especially our administrators, who have worked tirelessly to clean up after vandals, contribute new articles, help select our featured articles and Comics of the Week, and generally ensure things run smoothly for the 2,000 people who visit every day.

Midwest FurFest

As this was my first furry convention, I decided to write it up in a little more detail than I would do otherwise. Read on to see what a con virgin thought of Midwest FurFest 2005. You should also read KinkyTurtle's MFF 2005 con diary, which is far funnier than mine! :-)

RCMP in Saskatchewan are reporting the first suspected death of a human in North America by wolves in more than a century.

The Mounties say wolves likely killed an Ontario man in northern Saskatchewan earlier this week. The body of the 22-year-old was found Tuesday at Points North Landing near Wollaston Lake, about 450 kilometres northeast of La Ronge.
