Author: AshMCairo
“The truth, it seems, has the power to set the most inhumanely treated animals free from their abusers. Last week, troubling undercover footage of a circus elephant named Anne being bound and brutally beaten by her keepers sent shock waves through the UK, where such animals are paraded before an audience as ‘entertainment’. In response to the public outcry, the UK Environment Secretary, Caroline Spelman, has announced plans to ban the use of wild animals in circuses — returning some semblance of dignity to a host of exotic animals that currently share a billing with acrobats and clowns.”

U.S. Representative Don Young of Alaska has refused an award from the Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society Legislative Fund after being recognized this week with 145 other members of Congress, according to a press release from his office.
“HSUS are hypocrites, plain and simple, and I will not join them by accepting this award,” said Rep. Young, explaining his refusal. “Local animal shelters and humane societies do excellent work by caring for neglected and homeless animals, and through their spaying and neutering programs. This organization, however, has absolutely nothing to do with animal welfare. Instead they prey on the emotions of big-hearted Americans.”
He elaborated on his reasons on the floor of the House:
I’ve been a hunter all my life. And they’re against hunting. And that bothered me.
Humane Society COO and HSLF president Michael Markarian said that while HSUS “[disagrees] with [Rep. Young's] views on most animal welfare policies,” they “also believe in giving credit where credit is due and recognizing positive actions.”

Author: AshMCairo
“MTV’s TV series reboot of the classic ’80s comedy Teen Wolf, premiering on June 5 after the MTV Movie Awards, is set to be markedly different from the Michael J. Fox flick. For starters, there doesn’t seem to be a modern version of best pal and love interest, the awesomely named “Boof” (travesty!). Instead, the network is going for an edgier approach and hoping to attract the audience of two other supernatural classics. “When I first talked to MTV about it, I said what if we do it kind of like The Lost Boys with kind of the pace and fun of Buffy,” exec producer Jeff Davis (Criminal Minds)

Today you met your first furry, and want to know what it’s all about, so the first thing you do is ask a friend, who claims to know, but doesn’t know that much more than you do.
He says “It’s some weird sexual fetish, I know cause I saw something on TV about it”.
For some, that’s enough info, and they go through life thinking that’s what it’s all about… except it’s about 90% wrong.
Now some Furries would write an encyclopedia on the subject, but I know darn well that if this post dribbles on too long that most, if not all of you will tune out, so lets get straight to the short and curlies.
A Furry is someone who “describes themselves as an animal” in much the same way that someone else might describe themselves as “Christian” or a “Footy Fan”.
Why do they do that?
Well everyone has different reasons, but a few include “Because I feel it’s my spirit animal” or “I’m a big fan of cartoon animals” or even “My mates all do it, so I thought I’d try it out too”.
Now a lot of Furries are highly creative, they can draw, paint, sew, design, write and are also often good with computers, in fact some people have said that if it wasn’t for the furries, half the internet wouldn’t work, I don’t know if that’s true, but it’s a fun rumour.
So, you’ll see Furry artwork, Hear Furry Music, and once in a while see Furries dressed in costumes which they very often make themselves after months of hard work, think of the work that goes into something like quilting and you’ll have the basic idea of the kind of effort involved, more on this later.
You may have probably seen a furry on Twitter or Facebook, and here’s an interesting thing, Spammers almost never use a Furry avatar, so if you see a person with a Furry avatar who wants to follow you, then it’s most likely a genuine person who reads your stuff and likes you.
But the sex? What about that?

Edit: If you didn’t get this, Euroference and Confuzzled pulled a fast one. This was an APRIL FOOLS JOKE.
Author: GreenReaper
Popular european conventions Eurofurence and ConFuzzled have announced their intent to form a combined body: EuroFuzzled.
The merger made a lot of sense, as slippery convention spokesotter Tungro explained:
Running a convention involves a lot of logistics and expertise, as well as time and commitment. In order to reduce costs and overlap, it is in the interests of both conventions to pool resources together.
The UK and DE editions of EuroFuzzled will still be lead by Matt Lion and Cheetah respectively; however, art show panels, registration systems, badge printers, regualar guests, hired entertainers and gophers will be shared between the conventions.
The news goes some way towards explaining the recent notice of ConFuzzled’s cancellation.

New York City artist Nate Hill has retired his performance-art pieces, several of which involved animal mascot costumes. Described as “part furry fandom, part street theater, and part creepy perv”, Hill’s spectacles included:
- “Punch Me Panda“, in which he dressed in a panda costume and chest protector, and invited passersby to take a swing at him.
- “Death Bear“, in which Hill put on a hard, black bear head and made housecalls to “take things from you that trigger painful memories and stow them away in his cave where they will remain forever, allowing you to move on with your life”.
- “Free Bouncy Rides“, in which he wore a blue dolphin costume with a sign reading “Free Bouncy Rides”, and invited people to bounce up and down on his lap.

Time blogger Bryan Walsh gives his account and opinions on a recent video released by Go Daddy CEO Bob Parsons. The video was taken from Zimbabwe, where Parsons had shot and killed an elephant while handing out GoDaddy swag to local residents.
While Bob Parsons defended his actions, stating that the elephant was a menace to the locals and ruined crops, animal rights groups have called the actions deplorable. PETA responded to the action by handing out their first ever “Scummiest CEO of the year” award, claiming that there are “many humane ways to keep elephants away from crops.”

From the Seattlest
Let’s break this down to its component parts: As a commercial, Skittles’ latest gambit is a success, in that people are talking about it (and by inference, their product) afterward. As a social experiment, it’s bold. Granted, commercials as social statements is something of a hobbyhorse of mine, but in this instance, what’s being said is remarkable.
The ad starts out cute and silly, as if it had simply been co-opted from Cute Overload, or LOLCats or similar pop culture ephemera, and then…Well, you’ll see…
