Ian and Hunter Youbook

Tue 22 Mar 2011 - 01:30

03/18/2011
By: TheIronweasle

Ian and HunterOn August 27th 2010, shortly after my joining of the Fandom, I started something new, a book on youtube. I was the first to ever do this, interestingly enough. But I digress.

I started writing Ian and Hunter. The story surrounds the young man Ian Hunter, who has awoken in a medievil village populated by a strange(or not, to those reading this) Race of animal people. However Ian can’t remember anything before waking up. As he adapts to life in the village, and attmpts to revcover his memory he learns that war is brewing, and he might be part of a deep political struggle.

Now as I’m sure many of you see, this sounds very similar to Twokinds. This is because I was reading it at the time I started. However, it is only the basic background that is similar, and the story becomes much different and darker as it progress.

So check it out at youtube.com/TheIronweasle please give your comments and criticisms. However please note that this is a first draft in which I plan to edit afterwards, and I use extremly bad editing tools, so know I am very aware of misspells.

EDITORS NOTE: This is a user submitted article and is seen as self promotion and not news, however, the concept of a “Youbook” is interesting. With the move to either e-books or audio books, this is a very different approach. Please take a look and give your opinion. Good luck with your project.

Atlanta’s Rock 100.5 Broadcasts “Furry Convention Undercover”

Mon 21 Mar 2011 - 20:04

The Regular Guys from Rock 100.5 invaded Furry Weekend Atlanta. They used information they pulled from twitter.

They quote tweets from @Bad_Dragon, @Lupinesilver @Kravenlupei @Tigerafterdark and others. Include talking about the cerberus sheath from Fetish Zone.

Jaeger Fuchs states “For the record, Fetish Zone did not host any Cerberus parties at FWA as mentioned at the end of this broadcast.” FNN has confirmed this from multiple sources. Fetish Zone did not host such a party.

The radio hosts used Twitter to find and invade private room parties.

Menlo Park draws fire for quietly exterminating squirrel population

Mon 21 Mar 2011 - 17:47

03/21/2011
Submitted By: Shouta
News Source: Mercury News

kaput-d-combo-baitThough he isn’t convinced Menlo Park made the right call when it ordered a hit on the teeming ground squirrel population at Bedwell Bayfront Park, Mayor Rich Cline is certain better outreach on the city’s part would have stemmed some of the public outrage that followed.

“There probably should have been a more thorough process,” Cline admitted.

The city recently came under fire from park users for killing the squirrels and keeping the details quiet. Officials said the rodents had to go because they posed a threat to an important layer of earth containing the landfill Bayfront sits on top of.

“This action was disguised for months,” Eileen McLaughlin of Citizens for Completing the Refuge, a Palo Alto-based nonprofit that works to protect wetlands, told the city council on Jan. 25. “We have to wonder why and how that decision was made. The park opened in 1984. … squirrels have always been there. What is the squirrels’ actual record of damage …?”

At the same council meeting, Menlo Park Deputy City Manager Kent Steffens called the extermination “unfortunate but necessary.” The squirrels’ burrows were reaching into the decaying garbage and the animals were bringing trash to the surface, he said.

“One Week” by Whyte Yote

Mon 21 Mar 2011 - 16:50

Author: toonces

Some of the best stories are simulations of the more sinful desires, and BDSM certainly falls into this category. While Whyte Yote offers up a story that is absent of the bondage or sado-masochistic aspects, he creates a story with a starkly defined dom/sub binary- and does it with a muted, even disaffected touch that enables vivid imagery. Issues of class and race (as far as they can be somehow projected upon furry animal pseudo fantasy-people, or whatever) give the story a special bite, one that can often cause conflict between writer and reader.

And for those who were looking forward to a little bondage: If I don’t learn to stop futzing with my hoodie zipper during recording session, you can presume in future recording sessions that my hands are cuffed behind my back.

G4 Attack of the Show covers Furry Weekend Atlanta

Mon 21 Mar 2011 - 13:33

As mentioned on numerous tweets this weekend, G4′s Attack of the Show (ATOS) came to do videos and interviews at Furry Weekend Atlanta. G4 ATOS has a long history of being fascinated by furries and has often featured them on their show. They even came down to Atlanta to film the Furry/Klingon Bowling event held in 2007 that got national internet attention.  The coverage is often very humorous but has never come off as negative.

At this time, we do know they did some brief interviews, and filmed part of the Fursuit Dance competition.

We don’t know when G4 plans to air the footage. If they keep to previous production scheduls, the footage should air sometime in late April. As soon as we have a date, we’ll post it here! We’ll also make sure to post the video as soon as we can after they air it.

EDIT: If you recognize a suiter below, please tell us who they are in comments below! Give their twitter name too!

Digger’s journey comes to an end

Fri 18 Mar 2011 - 12:54

Author: GreenReaper

Digger, by Ursula VernonUrsula Vernon‘s ‘Digger of Unnecessarily Complex Tunnels’ has completed her journeys. [tip: chelImQo']

For the last six months or so, I have been very focused on finally finishing Digger’s unexpectedly epic journey (some of you undoubtedly remember those first five pages, and my constant refrain that I was just doodling and not to get attached!) but I didn’t actually spend much time thinking about what to say once I did.

I guess the only thing to say is “Thank you!”

Digger won the 2005 Web Cartoonists’ Choice Awards for ‘Outstanding Black and White Art’, and was snominated in several other categories in 2005 and 2007. Recent strips will be collected and published by Sofawolf Press as vol. 6 in the series.

FX announces “Wilfred” Sitcom featuring anthropamorpic dog

Fri 18 Mar 2011 - 08:44

Wilfred is yet another Americanized comedy adaptation, this time coming from the Australian show of the same name. The original was broadcast down under in 2007, with a second season airing just last year. Wilfred is based on a 2002 short film by comedy duo Adam Zwar and Jason Gann. Zwar has been replaced by Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the forthcoming prequel The Hobbit) for the American version, but Gann will reprise his role from the original series as Wilfred the pseudo-anthropomorphic dog.

The premise for Wilfred is without a doubt the weirdest to appear on TV in a long time. Ryan (Wood) is a neurotic, depressed man whose neighbor (Fiona Gublemann, Californication) asks him to watch her dog during the afternoons. The dog, at least from Ryan/the audience’s point of view, is a full-grown man in a bad costume. Ryan struggles to keep Wilfred under control as he begins to question his grip on reality.

PETA Saves 240 Cats, Then Kills 120

Thu 17 Mar 2011 - 12:44

The furry fandom’s good, although sometimes manic and radical, friend PETA has struck a major blow against animal cruelty this month.

After a lengthy 6-month investigation, officials in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, have captured and removed over 240 cats from capture. Their prison, an unventilated storage facility under the surname, “Sacred Vision Animal Sanctuary.” The owner and operator of the animal sanctuary is one Elizabeth Owen. Owens, according to PETA, “made no effort to find homes for the cats… [and] showed every indication that she is an animal hoarder.” The facility Owens ran housed over 300 cats all stuffed into wire boxes, four cats to a box. One litter box was given per crate and the cats were never allowed to roam free. These atrocities sparked PETA to report Owns to local authorities. Owens was convicted of animal cruielty in September of last year. It was not until March 1st that the cats were seized from their prison. 30 of the cats had died and 30 of the remaining 270 cats were considered “Owen’s personal pets” and were released back into her custody.

This story may seem like a cut and dry story of heroism. Evil cat hoarder, noble PETA swoops in to save the day, and 240 cats go free. However, there is a major rub to this story that some find shocking. Out of the 240 cats rescued, only 120 of them are alive as of now – due to the “noble” act of euthanizeing the cats. PETA wrote on their website, “Roughly half of the 240 or so cats that were seized fromOwen’s storage units were put out of their misery because of conditions such as anal maggots, herpes, ringworm, tumors, seizures, multiple abdominal abscesses, cracked and bloody paw pads, severe gum disease and missing teeth, – all things that cause pain and discomfort and that don’t happen overnight. These cats had long been languishing with no quality of life. For them, death was a release from a bad life of containment, stress, and pain. They are in a kinder place.”

After reading this, many were shocked. “I was with them until they decided to kill nearly half of the animals rescued. I understand them wanting to put the cats out of their misery, but some of those things were treatable. If they had cracked paw pads, those would heal! There is no reason for an animal who is suffering from a non-lethal ailment, which can be healed quickly with medicine, should be put to death!” a very alarmed furry said.

As a counterpoint, some Furries agree completely with PETA’s choice of action. “I condone and congratulate PETA for their unrelenting war on animal cruelty. This is a major blow and huge example to all animal abusers. On the subject of their decision to release the cats from their pain, I again congratulate them. Those cats had been through enough. They needed to be sent home to their Creator. As PETA said, ‘These cats had no quality of life!’” another fur explained.

“What else is new? PETA saves a bunch of animals from captivity, then “frees” them again from their physical prisons. They’ve been doing this for years,” an apathetic fur commented.

The question raised now is, was it right for PETA to euthanize all those animals? Or was it an act of mercy? You decide.

Prosecutor Seeking First Degree Murder in Dargis Case

Wed 16 Mar 2011 - 13:24

The following story stems from the sexual assault of an unidentified 19 year old woman in the Zeeland township in Michigan. She is identified in the article as a furry and as going by the name “Night Horse”.  Her former boyfriend, Joshua Michael Hambley was arrested for the murder on February 25th.  Her involvement with the furry fandom was brought up while she was being questioned about text messages sent to Dargis after the assault.

Joshua Hambley

Joshua Hambley

The Holland Sentinel reports:

Even though she accused him of sexual assault, text messages a woman exchanged with Jonathan Dargis days before he was killed suggested the woman was open to meeting him again.

Defense attorney Thomas Smith read excerpts from the messages while cross-examining the 19-year-old woman during the conclusion of a preliminary exam for Joshua Hambley on Tuesday. After testimony was complete, the judge determined there was enough evidence to send the case to trial in circuit court.

Hambley, 18, is charged with open murder in the death of Dargis, 18, whose body was found buried in the woods behind Hambley’s mother’s residence in Zeeland Township on Feb. 25.

“Smith also questioned the woman about her identity as a “furry.” “Furries” are part of a subculture who believe they possess both human and animal characteristics.

The woman believes she is part horse and has adopted the “furry” name “Night Horse,” she said.”
