“The supermodel seduces the randy rabbit in the commercial for a Chilean fashion firm.

The one-minute clip, for company Basement, kicks off with the catwalk queen gazing at the London skyline from a skyscraper window as a man with a giant rabbit’s head sits reading a newspaper.

The creature then dances before Moss does the same, while at the same time opening up her coat to reveal her lingerie-clad body.”

Freeway extension rattles snakes

Wed 20 Apr 2011 - 16:53

Author: ringtailedfox

Ontario King's Highway 401shieldIn recent days, the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) has erected a two-meter (six foot) tall fence, stretching 9 kilometers (about 5.5 miles) along the threatened eastern fox snake‘s habitat in the city’s west end.

The special fabric fence – which extends below ground level – was erected because the snake can climb and slither beneath regular fences. The MTO was concerned that snakes might wander into the construction zone, where they would be at risk.

The fence was built with assistance from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to keep the construction project in compliance with the Endangered Species Act, as work begins on extending Highway 401 west towards the proposed bridge to Detroit.

Authorities Seek More Victims of Accused Xbox Pedophile

Wed 20 Apr 2011 - 16:00

Police are asking parents to search the Xbox Live friend’s lists of their children for the gamer tag of Formic Hivemind – the online name of accused pedophile Richard Kretovic.

The police in Greece, New York indicate the 19-year-old sexually abused an under 13-year-old in the basement of his house after the two met and struck up a friendship on Xbox Live. Police are asking locals of Greece, NY that if they find the Gamertag “Formic Hivemind” on their child’s Xbox Live account, to contact them immediately.

Police say Kretovic and the child he’s accused of abusing met more than once and that they are investigating whether there were more victims.

Online gaming is a major way many kids communicate. Parents should be aware of this fact, and that most gaming consoles have these features. You can control your privacy settings to limit someone finding out your location and other information that may put you in danger. Because these systems use the internet and game play can often be global, not just locked down to a local area, you really don’t know who you are playing with online. The message here is to be careful and be aware of who your children are communicating with.

Brian Crecente from gaming site Kotaku explains his strategy for keeping his 9-year-old safe:

“I use parental controls to limit the amount of time my 9-year-old son can play in a week, and I also don’t allow him to chat with anyone who isn’t on his friend’s lists. Finally, I have to authorize the addition of any new friends to that list with a password. Before I do that I make sure that I’ve met the new friend, in person, before authorizing that addition.”

Protect Your Child
1. On your computer go to Xbox.com and sign in to your account.
2. Go to My Xbox and Family Center
3. Select your or your child’s avatar and select Online Safety Settings.
4. Allow or block the options available. I allow my son to play online but block the ability to accept friend requests. I also only allow him to communicate with friends. I only allow friends to see his history, status and profile.
5. When a friend request for your child comes in, you will be asked to enter your Xbox Live password to authorize it.

Hawaii Five-O Has “Furry” Episode

Wed 20 Apr 2011 - 14:37

04/19/2011
By: Phoenix Audubon

On March 21, 2011, the rebooted series, “Hawaii Five-O,” aired an episode entitled, “Na Me’e Laua Na Paio,” (Hawaiian: “Heroes and Villains”) where an attendee to the “SpectacuCon” comic book convention is murdered at a nearby hotel. Chin checks the victim’s phone, where there is a text message that says, “Be carefule, he’s looking for you,” from one “Psycho Kitty.” An icon shows a woman wearing a white wig, black eye mask, and black cat ears.
When the Five-O team visits SpectacuCon and ask a “Trekkie” where they can find Psycho Kitty, they are directed to the “Furry Fandom” section of the convention floor. Sure enough, there is a poster that says “Furry Fandom” on it, and the team comes upon a group of fursuiters, as well as Psycho Kitty herself.
Unfortunately, the episode is no longer available online. However, there is a clip available on CBS.com that shows the image of the phone text message and Psycho Kitty. The recap of the episode is here: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/hawaii_five_0/recaps/119/recaps.php

Abandoned cats and dogs roam Fukishima

Wed 20 Apr 2011 - 02:54

Author: GreenReaper

Judging by compensation payouts, almost 50,000 households were affected by evacuations from the vicinity of the Fukushima I nuclear power plant – not counting those who died in the tsunmai. Many kept pets, and were forced to leave them behind when the call to leave came.

The animals are now trying to survive on what they were left or can scavenge from the area. Reports of a breeder’s pack of shelties in Minamis?ma led to a rescue mission, but many fled.

Local cats are also affected. While some have been fed and rescued, others found their own food (note: graphic imagery). [furryne.ws: 1, 2]

Via Kotaku [Tip: BlaiddWolfe and FrostBight]

A 19-year-old from Greece, New York, that identifies himself on Xbox Live as a “homosexual furry” has been arrested and charged for allegedly sexually abusing a boy under the age of 13 he met while playing on Xbox Live.

According to authorities, Richard Kretovic, who goes by the Xbox Live gamertag Formic Hivemind met his alleged victim while playing games on Xbox Live. Why Furries Are The Happiest People On Earth

Tue 19 Apr 2011 - 13:32
Via  The Awl Alex Balk@ 11:00 am

“A trio of researchers from the National University of Singapore — Kenneth Tai, Xue Zheng and Jayanth Narayanan — concludes that ‘touching a teddy bear mitigates the negative effects of exclusion,’ leading to increased levels of cooperative, helpful behavior. They report the stuffed animal seems to have ‘specific psychological significance as a source of comfort and positive feeling,’ brightening the mood of those who are otherwise feeling ostracized.

Editors note:  This research was done with teddy bears – I don’t see that it could not apply to any plush toy.

“Stasis” by Alflor

Tue 19 Apr 2011 - 04:51

Author: toonces

For the first time in the history of the book club, we have a guest host with us this week. Jay1743, as he goes by on FA, joined us in the studio – on the futon in my eight foot by eight foot room on the outskirts of DC – to discuss Alflor’s disturbing sci-fi fic “Stasis.” The themes of loneliness and isolation in the story were just too great, we had to invite a friend to keep us company.

We hope you enjoy the podcast!

Bobby Davro simulates sex with giant kangaroo

Mon 18 Apr 2011 - 11:38

Via DailyMail.co.uk
[Tip: Kuma Chan]
Comedian Bobby Davro left parents shocked by simulating sex in a giant kangaroo suit during a children’s panto.
Davro was playing the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz and made lewd movements in front of children as young as five.
He also allegedly made racist jokes during the performance at Preston’s Charter Theatre. The actor, 52, repeatedly referred to Chinese people eating dogs and pulled ‘Chinaman’ faces.

Theatre bosses and the production company have now been forced to apologise after angry parents complained.

Grandmother Annabelle Fleming, 67, who took her five-year-old grandaughter Jane to the show, said: ‘I was furious. I think he thought it was a pub audience.’ Another parent said Davro pulled up his trouser leg and demanded that one lady in the audience ‘kiss his leg better’. She said he then made a lewd joke as he offered sweets to co-star, Steph Fearon, saying: ‘That lady over there has already had my Nut Cluster.’

Mrs Fleming, from Leyland, said: “I’m not counting the cost but my tickets were £52 and you don’t pay £52 to see some bloke make out with a kangaroo. ‘We got some of the last few seats and, as it was sold out, I think he thought it was a captive audience and he could do what he liked.’

Mephit Fur Meet seeking donations for Tiger Haven charity auction

Mon 18 Apr 2011 - 09:55

Mephit Fur Meet is seeing both new and used items. All items gathered will be auctioned at the convention on Labor Day Weekend.

“Hey furs! We are right in that time of year when a lot of people start looking at cleaning out their homes and maybe getting rid of some things. If you are thinking of cleaning out some of your belongings, before you give everything to a resale shop look through your stuff and see if anything might be great for the Tiger Haven charity auction.

Maybe you have an awesome collection of wolf plushes that you just don’t appreciate as much anymore. Or something geeky, like a cool old computer game, that you no longer use.

Maybe you love all your belongings but happen to enjoy frequenting yard sales. Keep an eye out for something great to get just for the auction.

If none of these appeal to you then you still can help, we need buyers at the auction. Are you getting your tax return soon? Don’t blow it all right away, save some to spend at MFM in the Tiger Haven charity auction.

The kitties will thank you!”

If you are interested in sending an item for the auction, you can read Princess B’s post here. You can contact them here – choose Charity
Tiger Haven can be contacted through their website here or through their address:

Walk the dinosaur

Sat 16 Apr 2011 - 17:47

Author: AshMCairo
Editor’s note: Not exactly furry… scaly for sure. Maybe this will give people some ideas to make costumes like this.

Children at a school in the Bondi area of Sydney, Australia, had a surprise visitor on Friday, 1 April 2011 – a seven-foot (two-metre) tall baby Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur. Children shrieked and froze in momentary fear as the huge creature invaded their school yard, then smiles and laughter broke out when they realised the life-sized monster was an animated model, operated from within by a human. The roaring dinosaur surprised 350 primary school pupils as at a presentation to launch a national tour of the animatronic show ‘Walking With Dinosaurs’.
