Creating a Proper Facebook Page for your Fursona
Many of you have been upset or even outraged that your account has been deleted from Facebook for violating their Terms of Service because your account appears to have fictional information (the details of your fursona). It is within Facebook’s rights to enforce this. Steven Cherry from the “Technology This Week” Podcast warns that in most cases, when you sign up with a social networking site, blogging service or any other such service on the web, many times, these companies actually “own” the ID you create. If your online identity is defined by one of these sites, you risk losing that ID all together.
Hypnobeast, a professional hypno-therapist and podcaster has written an in-depth article on how to properly construct a Facebook profile and page for your Fursona that won’t end up getting you deleted.
Pretty much any profile that doesn’t have a human face is at risk for deletion. I have heard of friends that had to change their account profile usernames as well. Facebook’s TOS also says that users only get one account profile, so you can’t have one for yourself and one for your fursona. Plus the account profile information must be accurate. I know that many of you guys don’t like Facebook and that’s fine, but if you want your fursona to have a presence on Facebook here is a little rundown on what to do.
Read the article, follow the seven steps and enjoy using Facebook.

ZonieCon 2011 cancelled
Author: GreenReaper
Arizona furry convention ZonieCon, intended to relaunch in Tucson this September after a decade-long hiatus, has been cancelled.
Chair Scott Malcomson listed various promotion and communication issues – compounded by his Phoenix address, 100 miles away:
As one of the millions of long-term unemployed in this country, [I can't] pay for significant advertising out of pocket. […] Nor have the flyers been moving in any significant numbers. […] There has even been active hostility against the idea of having an Arizona furry convention from other Arizona-based furries. In furry-frequented places where our flyers have been provided, they have subsequently been trashed, and artwork has been posted indicating hostility towards myself.
We were supposed to have an active website up by the end of February […] I was told by one of our core convention staff that they had a qualified volunteer for the website […] March rolled past without any sign of such a website or even any confirmation of who exactly was supposedly working on it. […] Weeks would pass […] We currently have exactly two pre-registrations, and NO hotel room block reservations.
I do not see a future for an Arizona convention which does not have a stronger and more active commitment towards building attendance, or which has a chairman, like myself, unable to provide for its needs. […] ZonieCon is simply not to be.

Further Confusion 2012 May newsletter
Author: Frysco
- New Venue, New theme
- New Reservation policy and a message from our chair
- FC2012 Pre-Registration is Open! Now Fully Online!
- Dealers Room Applications now open!
- Hotel reservation time
- Next Staff Meeting
- For ‘would-be’ Staff
1. New Venue, New theme
The theme for Further Confusion 2012 is “The Infurmary (For a limited time
every surgery comes with a free prize inside!)”. It will be held at the
San Jose Convention Center, from January 12th through the 16th 2012, with
the San Jose Marriott and the Hilton San Jose as our main hotels and the
St. Claire as our preferred overflow.
2. New Reservation policy and a message from our chair
This year we are moving to what may be our final home at the San Jose
Convention Center just one block from last year’s location at the
Fairmont. We have secured the site for the next 3 years on the Martin
Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. This new location holds promise with
more programming space, indoor parking, and two wonderful hotels attached
to the property. The San Jose Marriott and the Hilton San Jose will be
our main hotels continuing with the St. Claire as our preferred overflow.
All in all, an outstanding move.
So that we can continue to offer the best attendee experience the
convention, hotels, and venue can provide, we must make a difficult but
necessary change to our hotel room registration process and policy.
Beginning May 15th at 1pm Pacific Time (4pm Eastern, 9pm UK, 10pm Central
Europe) we will be accepting hotel reservations for Further Confusion
2012.
At the time of registration each person will be immediately billed their
first night’s room and tax for each room reserved. This will be
considered a non-refundable deposit and will not be returned in the event
of cancellation.
This tough decision is necessary to help mitigate room holds that are
released shortly before the convention start date and after the room block
has closed. Conventions such as ours are granted concessions and program
space based on how many rooms are filled over the course of the
convention. Once the room block is closed if someone releases interest in
a room it counts against our room block. If enough rooms are released,
which has happened, the convention is liable for those rooms and must pay
for them. The costs can be very high which can diminish the ability of
Further Confusion to offer world class amenities to our deserving
attendees.
Further Confusion is asking that attendees reserving rooms within our
block carefully consider their reservation before making it. If you are
making a reservation with a debit card for example, your bank account will
be deducted the first room night and tax immediately and no refunds will
be offered. In the event of a cancellation no further charges will be
made beyond the first night and tax.
Please consider your choices carefully as you reserve!
Contact hotel@furtherconfusion.org with any questions about this policy.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
3. FC2012 Pre-Registration is Open! Now Fully Online!
You can pre-register for Further Confusion next year with our spiffy new
online registration system! Just follow the directions to the online
registration system at the top of the Registration page our web site and
then enter your information.
Pre-registration is $45 for regular attendees (through August 31st, then
the price will rise to $50), but you can also pre-register at the sponsor
($100) or patron ($200) levels.
Since this is a new system, it’s going to look a little different to what
you might have used in the past (but may be familar to some). The big
benefit is that you’ll be able to work out whether you’ve pre-registered
or not at any time of the day, just by logging on! No more worried emails
at the last moment wondering if you remembered to pre-register or not -
the answer will be just a few clicks of the mouse away!
First, create an account with your real first and last name, and then you
will be asked to set up a security question that no-one else can answer.
The first time through, you’ll also be asked to give your contact
information, but when you’ve done that once it’ll be there from year to
year. Then pick the membership type that you want, and how you want to
pay. Currently, you can choose to either mail in a check or money order
with a form that you print, or you can pay instantly online through PayPal
(which also works for credit cards). Coming soon, we’ll also have a
separate credit card option for those people who don’t have a PayPal
account. Watch this space!
It’s not all automated, of course! If you have any questions, you can
still talk to a real person by emailing registration@furtherconfusion.org.
4. Dealers Room Applications now open!
Yes, you read that right, we are now open for dealer table sales! To apply
for a table, go to the Further Confusion website, and then to the Dealers
page, and there will be a link to the application process.
This year, all but one small step will be done online. You will still need
to mail in something to us (a signature form, and payment if paying by
check or money order), but there’s not going to be any ‘if we receive it
before date X, you go to the back of the line.
We have slightly fewer spaces than we had last year due to the new
facility, but not by much, so we do recommend that you try to get into the
system as soon as you can.
5. Hotel reservation time
We’ve said this above, but we’ll say it again because it’s important.
Beginning May 15th at 1pm Pacific time, we will be accepting hotel
reservations for Further Confusion 2012. If you haven’t read the message
from the Chair (above closely – do so! There is a very important change
regarding room reservation policy!
6. Next Staff Meeting
The next meeting is May 14th, and will take place in the Willow Glen room
of the San Jose Marriott. Meeting time is 1pm.
For those furs wishing to participate in our staff meeting from out of
town, we will be doing a trial run with a conference bridge at this
meeting, using pro-grade conference phones.
You do not need to be staff to join the call, but we are keeping this
number unpublished at the moment while this solution is in beta: please
contact info@furtherconfusion.org for the number, along with what you’re
interested in doing for the convention.
(Note that this is a regular number in the Bay Area, and is not toll free
– FC is not responsible for your phone bill)
We will join the bridge from the meeting room a few minutes before the
meeting starts, and will make time for folks on the conference during roll
call, etc.
7. For ‘would-be’ Staff
Are you working with FC2012? Have you been officially hired? Are you
able to access our private site? Do you see your name there?
If the answer to any of these is “no” or “Wait, what private site?”,
please speak to your track leader or “boss” (ie, the person who hired you)
to make sure your info has been sent in to our HR team and that you’ve
been added to the appropriate lists.
If you would like to be staff, but have no idea what you would like to do
(or even if you have an idea of what to do), you can contact our HR team
at HR@furtherconfusion.org.

The Royal Oak Police say the skunks were found on the 1700 Block of Maxwell Avenue and the 200 block of Dewey Street, near Oakview Cemetery. By: Tim “Kijani” Watanabe
In today’s down economy, it takes a great idea, a dream, and a lot of persistence to start a niche-market clothing line.
But 5V5 (V), who is based out of the picturesque countryside town of Yorkshire in the United Kingdom, believes he has all of the above, and then some. He is the owner of a new company, Saint Le Fur, which specializes in clothing catered to members of the furry fandom.
“I’ve been interested in fashion design since I was 15,” V said. “I was always interested in seeing fashion forecasts and how they shaped peoples’ personalities.”
An inspired college student, V didn’t let the heartbreak of not being accepted into a university course in fashion get to him. Instead, his combined interest in designer labels and the furry fandom led V to create his own line, with a name as unique as his clothing.
“I wanted it to be different and original for the community in its own way, and thus the name (Saint Le Fur),” V explained. “Its actual meaning is ‘The Righteous Fur,’ meaning, ‘daring to be different.’”
According to V, the target market for Saint Le Fur is wide-ranging, “roughly 17 to 30-year-old males and females,” he said. What sets Saint Le Fur’s shirts apart from other furry-themed apparel is that the brand’s one-of-a-kind stylization offers “closeted” furries something to wear in public without feeling uncomfortable.
Hosted on www.streetshirts.co.uk for the time being and being based out of the United Kingdom, a majority of Saint Le Fur’s vibrant shirts are UK-themed, but V is looking forward to the opportunity to branch out to a more worldwide audience as hit company gets off the ground.
“Due to the costs of shipping and handling, we are mainly aimed at the UK community,” V said, adding that some of his line is inspired by DJs and the clubbing scene. “When we build a solid fan base, I’d like to make more designs suited to other countries. My plan is to save up enough money to get some T-shirts made and go to AnthroCon to see how they go.”
Saint Le Fur does have a selection of generic furry designs, such as the popular I (paw) NY illustration, that has already been seen in the United States at conventions and elsewhere. The creative team behind the company is always open to hearing about and seeing new design ideas for their apparel.
“Thinking of new ideas everyday and just jotting them down for future reference is amazing,” V said, admitting that relying on third-party manufacturers such as Street Shirts relinquishes control of the shirt quality, but not the designs. “We are soon to change this as we expand and sell more shirts. Right now we just aim to build up ground.”
Although Saint Le Fur is in its precarious early stages, V, like most upstart fashion designers, has lofty goals for his line.
“I’d like to have branded parties, fashion shows at conventions and having unknown artists within the fandom step up and collaborate with us,” described V on his eventual goals for Saint Le Fur. “In general though, I’d just like to see this company succeed and really see people wear our stuff and say it’s ‘pawesome!’”
To view Saint Le Fur’s current clothing line, visit their Street Shirts website at www.streetshirts.co.uk/SaintLeFur. For questions or more information, e-mail V at [email protected].

Facebook, you likely either love it or hate it. The social networking giant seems to have been conducting maintenance on its user accounts for a few years focused on accounts for pets or animals. Mainly this seems to be driven by the network’s security policies to keep users from hiding behind another personality and not showing a profile page.
Today some furs in the UK have been on Twitter saying that they have signed onto Facebook to find their accounts have been deleted. Most are assumed to have been using either fursona names or profile pictures of either their fursuit or character artwork.
Several groups have sprung up to petition against the site from taking down profiles which are based on pets (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=133690639974794&v=wall) and also other objects such as calculators and teddy bears (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2220851540&v=wall).
Although Facebook has no official policy regarding ‘non-human’ profile pages, the terms of the website ask that users “provide their real names and information” and also “not create more than one personal profile” (http://www.facebook.com/terms.php?ref=pf) which is common among some furs to separate personal and furry lives apart.
If you have an account on Facebook, might be recommended to check what your name is and if it sounds realistic and everyday. Also be aware if your profile photos are all of character art or a Fursuit you might be more likely to catch the web moderators attention.
[Edit: One solution is to create a real user account, and then create a "fan page" for your Fursona or character. ]
One of those whose account was deleted, Axle Fox, was able to get his restored by giving Facebook his real name.

Police are searching for an armed robber dressed as a large furry animal who outran them after holding up a bank in the Swedish city of Gothenberg.
Swedish newspaper Gotebors-Posten (GP) reported that shots were fired as the unusually-attired perpetrator attempted to rob the bank, located in a large shopping center, late Friday.
“A man in a monkey outfit, or similar, may have been a bear, too, came running with security guards behind him. I thought it was a joke at first, a stunt, but then I walked past the bank and saw the shattered glass,” a witness told GP.
Around an hour after the robbery, police found a burning car near the crime scene. Investigations were continuing and no arrests had been made, they said.

Author:
When the O’Rourke family of Tucson found a couple of Easter-time bunnies in their back yard, they knew right away that something wasn’t quite right.
There was a reason the mother rabbit abandoned them. Paul O’Rourke realized one bunny they named Joe had no use of his hind legs. Paul and his family helped nurse the bunnies back to health, but then they went one step further to help the paraplegic bunny.
Paul’s son Liam designed and built a small cart for Joe to help him move around a little easier. The red wagon with yellow wheels took some getting used to, but ultimately seemed to improve his mobility.
After Joe and his brother were feeling a bit better, the O’Rourke family took them to a wildlife rescue center.
