"Gertrude Maxwell, the philanthropic founder of Save-A-Pet Inc., died on Tuesday night. She was 99. Mrs. Maxwell passed away at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach. She began her crusade at the age of 61 after attending a Chicago-area Humane Society meeting where she was shocked to learn that an estimated 90,000 homeless pets were euthanized across the country every month.
