Anthrocon Badge Update
Posted by Rigel on Sun 2 Jun 2002 - 17:16Anthrocon is going to take the leap this year into a 21st-century style of badge, as opposed to the 19th-century style that we've been using since our inception.
Starting this year, we will be abandoning the old card-in-sleeve badges, so easily lost or damaged, and using laminated plastic badges. For those who like to have personalized badges made to give to your favorite artists, we still have a limited supply of our badge-stock from last year left over. You can pick up a blank one at the con store while supplies last.

Massai donate cattle in response to Sept 11th
Posted by Sasta on Mon 3 Jun 2002 - 18:17Massai tribesmen in Kenya have only recently heard about the Sept 11th attacks on the US. To express sympathy they have given 14 cows, which they consider the most valued possession, to the people of the US. A US embassy near Tanzania received this ceremonial gift, and is not sure what to do with them.

Otter underpasses
Posted by MelSkunk on Tue 4 Jun 2002 - 11:06The first of over 250 underpasses for wildlife, especially otters, has been built in the Lake District of Britain. Concerned with otters being killed by crossing the busy road to get to their wetlands, the Highway Agency built the underpass hoping otters would use it instead. This reflects a growing concern for maintaining the island's unique biodiversity.

Fur Buy to return?
Posted by Feren on Wed 5 Jun 2002 - 18:43Poking around the web today, I happened to stop by the old Fur Buy website. Interestingly enough, I saw that their "News" section had been updated on May 27th, replacing the offer to sell the domain and software to any interested buyers. It seems that the proprietor of Fur Buy is considering making a comeback -- again -- and is soliciting feedback to see if there is any interest and support within the community for such a move.
A link for the mail address to respond to is provided off the Fur Buy news page.

Flayrah Editor Goes Duck Hunting
Posted by Aureth on Thu 6 Jun 2002 - 20:50Well, in a manner of speaking. I'll be at Duckon, one of Chicago's SF conventions, this weekend. Duckon is experimenting with restarting a furry track after a couple year's absence (caused by the furry track's migration to their very own full-fledged convention, Midwest FurFest), and you can spot me on a couple of programming panels. I'll have a brief con report early next week.
Anthrocon Update: Registration, Thursday Mixer
Posted by Rigel on Thu 6 Jun 2002 - 23:58Our registration system is being checked and re-checked. We've created a backup system in case anything goes awry with the computers this year. We also have a backup to the backup. Never let it be said that Anthrocon does not learn from its mistakes.
The registration desk is scheduled to be open on the following schedule:
Thursday: 2pm - 9pm
Friday: 10am - 10pm
Saturday: 10am - 6pm
Sunday: 10am - 5pm
For those of you arriving on Thursday night, we're planning a nice mixer in some of our expanded programming space. I'm thinking of having a truckload of soft pretzels brought in -- it *is* Philly, after all! It's scheduled for 8 PM to 10 PM that evening, so stop on by and mingle with the guests and with your fellow Anthrocon attendees.
And don't forget! Pre-registration for Anthrocon ends in just over ONE WEEK!
