Owner of FurBuy states, "We are baffled and amazed, even schocked, that the continued support of the fandom goes to a piece-mail auction system hacked together by an underage individual using a bug-ridden, featureless auction script freely available from the internet. "

You can read the rest of Jurann's (the owner of FurBuy) complaints below.

He is unclear why his system is unpopular and sees little support .

The full statemen by the owner Jurann follows:

"I would also like to take this time to explain the situation and state of the FurBuy system. For nearly a year now we have attempted to bring the furry fandom a quality, reliable, user-friendly system for the sale and purchase of furry works and other related items. We are not happy with the unfair and highly biased opinions toward our system and toward our administrators. We are also unhappy with the lack of any continual support from any users for this system and the incredible investment made to make it happen. We are baffled and amazed, even schocked, that the continued support of the fandom goes to a piece-mail auction system hacked together by an underage individual using a bug-ridden, featureless auction script freely available from the internet. We have spent over 9 months of solid development on the FurBuy system, an incredible amount of time and effort and professional skill in building this system in order to bring to the fandom the very best and most modern of features in an auction system. We have spent literally thousands upon thousands of dollars in the creation and ongoing support of this system, and even made it completely free in the end. "

"As the head administrator of FurBuy, the lead designer, and the primary investor in this system, I am personally taxed and frustrated beyond understanding in FurBuy's overall failure in the last year. I have personally invested approximately $6000 in building two powerful, professional grade servers to host FurBuy in order to provide the features and speed users demand. I have continued to spend $100 per month more than normal for internet connectivity to ensure that your access speed to FurBuy remains fast and open. I have invested the highest quality in modern web programming to be certain FurBuy is the most reliable, stable, feature-filled system possible. I am personally hurt and saddened by the large lack of support for this system and it's use. If you would like to see FurBuy continue as a system, please send your support to [email protected]"

Frankly, the unabashed whining of this site's administrator makes it even less likely that I would ever consider using his system. Disgusting.

Supposedly they got a flood of supporting email (maybe, maybe not) and have re-opened for business.

It's interesting to hear him continuously use the word "We". We this, we that. How many people are in his company IF he even has a registered business?

I can confirm they have re-opened. Whether this was Jurann's original intent (his message did say 'shut down in view of events') I can't guess.

Well, they must be doing something right, otherwise I can't see why FurBid would be doing so well.

This smells suspiciously like sour grapes to me.

It's just simple business. Look at what percentage of the market Ebay has. Something like 90%+, because they were first. Yahoo auctions exist but have only a tiny fraction of the market. Others are even smaller.

The online auction business is self-perpetrating (is that the right word?) Buyers go where the sellers are, and vice versa. Furbid is established.

If his equipment and programming is so much better, maybe he should offer to host furbid, though I have never expereinced any problems using furbid. It may be on even better equipment for all I know.

I wonder if Furnation is still going ahead with it's auction service - it will face the same situation.

Perhaps if Jurann would like to do something useful, he can make FurBuy a generalist SF/F auction site. Right now there isn't a free SF/F auction site, and I'm sure he'd get the users and interest level commensurate with what he hopes. And he'd be providing a valuable service to a niche that doesn't have what he offers right now. Why try to reinvent the wheel? Furbid already got the market share. Making money, an impression, getting egoboosts comes from being the first in a new market.

Go put those servers to use for a wider market, Jurann.

It seems that getting ego boosts is about all that he's interested in, based on his rant above.

Look at it this way, Jurann: You've got the hardware and the bandwidth for two really kick-butt Quake 3 servers.

Furbuy started with several strikes against it. It started after Furbid was well established. It was not free to start with. Jurann abused the Furbid system trying to promote it.

So he is upset that he didn't put Furbid out of business?

my understanding was that furbuy closed down for a few days to show some respect to the thousands of people who died in that horrible terrorist crash on the world trade center. i commend them for that because i didn't see any other furry sites go down over that time and very few even mentioned it. i'm really surprised that after such a thing you guys can so openly attack someone who did so much hard work and payed a great respect to america.

i found the page in my temporary internet folder and here is the part that aureth left out in his so called complete statement:

"Friday, September 14, 2001 - A Day of Prayer and Remembrance

United States President George W. Bush has declared today an official day of prayer and remembrance for those lost on Tuesday morning. Please join the nation in regarding not only those lives lost, but those who have sacrificed their time, money and even their own lives in attempt to save those affected. We ask that you visit a local church, synagogue or mosque and offer your prayers. We ask those Pagans and Atheists to give their thought and remembrance instead in honor of our great nation's losses. Thank you.

In observation of mourning for the loss of life in the United States, FurBuy will be closed until Saturday afternoon. Our heartfelt sorrow goes to the families and loved ones of the innocent lives lost on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. And our utmost appreciation to the thousands who have rallied support and manpower to the rescue and recovery from this most hateful attack. Please do your part to donate blood to assist in the treatment of the thousands of wounded, call the Red Cross for a donation center near you: 800-HELP-NOW"

so much for the journalistic integroty on this site...

Your understanding is incorrect.

Note the date on that--September 14. Jurann posted his little whine-fest on or before September 13. He added the "Day of Prayer" section later.

He also, after saying the current auctions will continue until they were finished, failed to give a link to said auctions, effectively screwing our auctions.

Later he added a link for that purpose. Bravo.

Too little, too late. Normally, I don't have any loyalty to one site or another, but I think I'll be changing that habit just on general principle now. Nothing like using world events as an excuse to bash your competition over the head, eh? As for the the other comments, I shall keep my opinions to myself.

Of course he's not fessing up. That whole message stank of Jurran's trademark whining. I've never heard anyone who can lash out so blindly, while at the same time ranting about how persecuted he is. Face it, your site failed because you have no soical skills, a terrible reputation, and most of all, because you couldn't try to just run a good site, you had to have the -only- furry auction site. It's like all the kids who get pissed at a Wizard of FurryMuck, then run off to start their own Muck, shouting about how it's better in every way, and will take all of Furry's users away in time. The simple fact is that you can't take down an established and well-liked site like FurBid without offering something special, and frankly, you didn't. Your code may have been more advanced, but so what? FurBid worked fine, and continues to work fine regardless of the age of the person running it. Jurann, why don't you stop trying to rule the virtual world, and just take some time to enjoy it for a change? You're never going to be King of the Internet. Not even Mayor of FurryTown.

Oh, and before you type it, OF COURSE I'm posting this anonymously. The last thing I need is for you to add me to your enemies list and rant at me directly for the rest of my life...

Anonymous had this to say about Robocop:

He is unclear why his system is unpopular and sees little support.

This is Jurann. JURANN. There's no other reason why he gets no support - because he's a professional asshole. Blah blah blah $6,000 blah blah, please try to garner sympathy using the Furnation tactic of whining about how much money it cost you. It works so well.

Running such a site is a labour of love, because there's no way on earth you can expect to make any signifigant amount of money doing it (this is furry fandom, remember?). It's a hobby. Why should I care how much money someone spends on their hobby? Great, if I use the service and actually find it helpful or original to me and I derive some regular benefit, I could be a nice guy and donate a few bucks. But if the site administrator whines and moans about how he spent zillions of dollars and hours on the site, and noone uses it, well, tough luck. You signed on for that when you plugged the ethernet cable in and put it online.

I hate you all.
