Ursa Major AwardsThe winners of the tenth annual Ursa Major Awards for the best anthropomorphic/"funny animal" literature and art first published during 2010 have been announced at a presentation ceremony tonight at Morphicon in Columbus, Ohio.

2010 Ursa Major Awards voting underway

Voting for the Ursa Major Awards for the Best Anthropomorphic Literature and Art of 2010 is now open, and takes place until April 17. Anyone may vote, and you are encouraged to ask your friends to vote also — please help spread the word!

There are five nominees in each of ten categories, except where there was a tie for fifth place.

To be eligible, a work must have been released during the calendar year 2010; must include a non-human being given human attributes (anthropomorphic), which can be mental and/or physical; and must receive more than one nomination.

Voting for the Ursa Major Awards for the Best Anthropomorphic Art and Literature first published during 2009 ends on April 18.

Anyone may vote, and you are encouraged to ask your friends to vote also. Visit the Ursa Major Awards web site to sign up to vote, or view the list of nominees.

On April 9, David Hopkins, the author of Jack, contacted the Ursa Major Award administrators to request that the work be withdrawn from consideration for the award in the category of Best Graphic Story. For technical reasons it must still appear on the ballot, but as the online voting system allows people to revise their choices at any time until the close of voting, those who have voted for Jack have the opportunity to select another nominee if they wish.

Nominations for the 2009 Ursa Major Awards for the Best Anthropomorphic Art and Literature close on February 28.

Anyone may submit up to five nominations for works first published during 2009 in each of the ten categories — Motion Picture, Dramatic Short Work or Series, Novel, Short Fiction, Other Literary Work, Graphic Story, Comic Strip, Fanzine, Published Illustration, and Game. It is not necessary to nominate for all categories.

Nominations for the 2004 Ursa Major Awards for the Best Anthropomorphic Literature and Art of that year have been tabulated, and the final ballot has been prepared. Voting closes June 10, and the Awards will be presented at Anthrocon 2005 in Philadelphia in July.

Southern Californa furs: assistance requested for Fred Patten!

Anime and anthropomorphic pioneering fan and writer Fred Patten suffered a stroke in March that left him paralyzed on his right side. He is no longer able to administer his gigantic collection of anime and manga, or his other personal items. His items must be moved on April 25th, and if you live in Southern California and are available to provide assistance, it would be tremendously appreciated.

Ursa Major Award Nominations Closing Soon!

More formally known as the Annual Anthropomorphic Literature and Arts Award, the Ursa Major Award is presented annually for excellence in the furry arts. It is intended as Anthropomorphic (a.k.a. Furry) Fandom's equivalent of the Hugo Award® presented by the World Science Fiction Society, mystery fandom's Anthony Award, horror fandom's Bram Stoker Award, and so forth.

Anyone may nominate. Nominations for 2004 works are open until April 15.
For those who wish to participate, an online form is now available at http://www.ursamajorawards.org/nominations.htm. You can also send in nominations by e-mail or postal mail; details are on the same web page.
