An attempt to stop the ban on ferrets in NYC by showing that the Board of Health had no reason to ban them fell through in Manhattan Supreme Court when the judge decided that there was "rational factual basis" to declare the animals vicious and unpredictable rabies mongers.
Elsewhere, the suitablity of ferrets as pets is not in question.

Usually it's dolphins helping drowning people that is typical in the world of animals rescuing, but a 10 year old dog who fell into a fast flowing river out of the reach of humans on the shore was saved by a seal. The seal caught up with in injured dog as it was going down, and pushed it to shore.Seals are smart and social animals, but this behavior hasn't been seen before.

The City of San Fransisco thinks sick, dead and rotting animals in the two SF area stores are enough reason to bar Petco from doing business there anymore.
Alerted by numerous customer complaints, they discovered starving animals, sick animals and animals dead or dying in too hot cages, including a toad that appeared to have boiled to death in its own water.

The event was held as part of a fundraiser for Christie's Hospital and Bolton Hospice.

A Japanese museum is pulling in double the visitors after its Since Godzilla art exhibit opened. The organizer points out that Japanese woodcuts from the feudal era which were simply cheap tourist items are now works of art. He hopes Godzilla, the 50 year old campy nuclear lizard, will be seen in that light as well.

We've all heard stories about insects and spiders living in people's hair, or crawling in their ears and getting stuck. And usually you can take comfort in knowing it's just a story.
But a female motorcyclist actually had a spider living in her ear, which was discovered, like in many of the fake tales, when she complained of a headache.

Finding when and where the horse was first domesticated is one of those bits of science that doesn't sound important but really is a revolution. Archaeologists in Kazakhstan hope they're on the trail towards an answer. Horses went from being wild terrors, to meat and milk animals, to a new sort of transportation. The milk aspect is especially important, and the team is looking for trace fats from the site as a proof of domestication. After all, no one would milk a wild horse.
