The furry teamYet another busy month for furries in the media is upon us, fronted by the Furries vs. Klingons bowling tournament; which gained internet-wide attention after being featured on Boing Boing and Fark TV.

Blogs went wild for this clash of the subcultures and someone even set up a poll on who they thought would win. From the start of the poll right up to weeks after the tournament the furs and Trekkies were neck and neck, each taking their turn to inch forward and fall back again. This was hyping up to be the subcultural clash of the year!

The hype was immense! Every furry, Trekkie and simply internet-centric website was reporting the event. Even Anthrocon caught up - bowling at the next Anthrocon anyone?

'The YouTube Furry War'; the name really says it all. Starting around the end of July this year, said "war" has been raging ever since, with diverse participants on both sides. Many ask why I started to and still do partake in this "war" - the reason is quite simple. If someone - hell, anyone - backs from this then it's somehow a "win" for the other side. And, with my infamy within the trolling ranks (they really hate logic), if I at any point back out then it's going to be a "victory" for the voracious losers.

Still, not all the haters involved are trolls. A troll is someone who hates and dirupts for the hell of it (ala chav - associated with juvenile delinquency, the "ASBO Generation", "Hoodie culture", and "yob culture".) Users such as StarNut45, Amnesty667 and srpuntas show that some haters have genuine reasons for hating furry kind. Coincidentally those three have since removed themselves from the way, StarNut actually giving a full apology. These are the people that furries should do more than just like, these are people who we should respect. They have the decency to actually admit - in front of hundreds - that they're basically wrong.

There are other haters who can teach us lessons however. And here I've is what some of them have taught me personally.

Channel 4 plans to release a documentary on furry families

It was once upon a daytime dreary did Mosey announce to the ukFur community that there was a television producer in our midst. Who was she? What was she doing here? And was she even real?

Only the next day did the one known as RachC4 introduce herself. Rachael Hardie of RDF Media, working on a new Channel 4 documentary series about family life... and one of the shows is going to be about – you guessed it – furries.

It's one thing is an artists is great; it's another if they hardly realise that. Kbryme, or KB to some, is just that. He's a non-pornographic inflation and general furry artist. And I nominated him for this issue's Featured Artist segment. Why? Because he's a great artist!

Continuing nicely from this issue's British furry theme, the UK's first furry convention has been announced!

ConFuzzled is still very much under the wraps but that doesn't mean details are lacking. If all goes the plan then the UK's first could go agaead as soon as mid-2008. Set to take place in Manchester, England's "number two" city, the plan is to provide a similar service as Eurofurence - full board, bed and breakfast for a set price.

ConFur, Tori Belliachi's attempt at the now defunct idea of the first furry social network

Your read that headline, and you better believe it, cause it's (hopefully) coming to your internetz sometime in April! If it isn't already online!

Yes, this is the much noted ConFur, yet another project by our very own Tori Belliachi - more commonly known as me - and Furry Media International. Details are still in the writing at the time of going to that virtual press, but expect a basic site with basic features; which will soon end up as one big thang with every feature you could dream of (we're talking maybe the year 20 million here.)

Fur Affinity's much anticipated Ferrox code update has been cancelled, so say early rumours from FA HQ.

In a low-publicity statement by lead coder and owner of Fur Affinity, Alkora, he announced that the purchase of the site's new server - christened Tiamat - would require a complete recoding of the site's backend to allow proper server synchronisation. Thus making a great majority of the Ferrox code virtually useless.

"The ferrox system that I had planned to implement for FA will not be used now [...] We're not using the current code because we need code that can handle multiple servers at one time... load management... all that nice stuffs..."

Alkora has since donated the Ferrox coding to the InflatioNation, the furry fandom's largest non-pornographic inflation and fatfur community.
