Quentin 'Cubist' Long here, letting you know that the wait is over -- ANTHRO #8 is online for your reading pleasure! The cover image is a bit unusual, in that it's a kind of collaboration between myself and Lucius Appaloosius. The esteemed Mr. A did some art for a Secret Project (which should see the light of day in the next week or so)... and I Photoshopped on said art. Without mercy.
I think you'll enjoy the end result.

Item: As some of you will recall, my other 'zine (TSAT) was running a couple of serials (RUNNING WILD and THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL) when it died; rather than let them die with the zine, I decided to transfer them over here to ANTHRO. As well, Keith Morrison's column, REALITY SOUNDBITES, made the jump to its new home! Since the two serials are being presented to a new audience, I've chosen to start each one over from the beginning, rather than pick up where they left off.

Item: I've tweaked the Support pages a bit. Specifically, if you see a book that you're interested in buying, you now have a choice between Amazon.com, Alibris, Barnes & Noble, and Powell's Bookstore! Since not everybody is comfortable with Amazon.com, I figured it might be a good idea to offer alternative sources...

Item: For the fans of CASTLE HORSETOOTH the webcomic by Oren Otter and EalaDubh, I have bad news and good news. The bad news is, there *still* isn't a new installment. The *good* news is, we've got some new strips anyway, filling in some of the backstory! Check it out!

Item: ART CONTEST! As it happens, the "TSAT refugee" serials (like virtually everything else in that zine) were *not* accompanied by any art. This is, of course, in sharp contrast to ANTHRO. So if you've been thinking about doing some art for ANTHRO... here's your chance! Surf on over to TSAT [ http://tsat.transform.to ]; read the existing chapters of THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL and/or RUNNING WILD, as you prefer; create illustrations for at least one of their episodes; and when you're done, submit your illustrations to me. I'll look them over, and if yours is the best art for its chapter, I'll present it alongside the text. In addition, there will be special prizes for the *very* best art I receive!

Item: During the month of October, ANTHRO recieved its first donations of cash... *and* its first subscriptions! Believe me, this generosity is appreciated -- and if it keeps going, it won't be just *me* who appreciates it! An ANTHRO subscription amounts to less than a penny a day, or, roughly speaking, one Big Mac sandwich over the course of a year. Do you enjoy ANTHRO at least that much? If so, please subscribe. Or offer your support in another way, such as by buying books or t-shirts or posters. I want to pay ANTHRO's contributors, but cannot afford to do so out of my own pocket. Therefore I'm asking you, the zine's appreciative readers, to step up and make it possible. And seeing as how the Christmas season is almost upon us, wouldn't it make sense to support ANTHRO by purchasing nifty (and furry!) gifts for your friends?
