In addition, there are panels such as "Animal Totemism", "The Art of Writing Fight Scenes", and "Costuming: Hair, Wigs, and Accessories" which cover topics that are clearly applicable to Furry writing and costuming.

The Worldcon Masquerade has many elaborate costumes but usually few or no Fursuiters. Fursuiters with really good costumes may be missing a great opportunity by not participating in a Worldcon Masquerade.

Wow. Wow. Man, I wish I was going...
WorldCons ***** rock for that sort of programming. Nowhere else will you see panels with so many BIg SF Names on them. At the same time!
WorldCons... and Westercons, too. Lotsa big names at both of those.
Last month at WesterCon 55 (named "Conagerie" which gave it a furry theme right form the start) I was standing next to Larry Niven at the cash bar prior to the Locus Awards banquet, talking to David Brin and Harry Turtledove; with Harlan Ellisson striking up a conversation with Charlie Brown (Locus' Editor) just behind me.
Lotsa names, yup.
Sidenote: I need to read up on the K'zin (or is it "Kzinti"?) so I can intelligently talk to Larry Niven about them... I see him frequently at LASFS-related events (swam with him at Elayne Pelz's pool a couple weekends ago). He's certainly no stranger to fandom.

I think it's like this: One Kzin, many Kzinti.
Go read all of the Man-Kzin wars books. Not all of them written by Niven himself, but he usually has a story in each of them. The Ringwold series has a Kzin. Many of his other short stories feature them, as well.
I cut my SF teeth reading Niven, back in high school. Good stuff.
