1,000 marching Pikachus

This news is a year old, but I don’t recall seeing any mention of it on any furry newssite from then until now..
There was a Pikachu Tairyou Hassei Chu (“An Outbreak of Pikachus”) Pokémon convention in Yokohama on August 9-17, 2014 that included a march of 1,000 costumed Pikachus (according to original press releases; it appears considerably less Pikachus actually marched) through the city.
Many people took videos of the marching Pikachus, added music including heavy metal tracks, John Williams’ Star Wars Imperial march and old Imperial Japanese Army military marches, then posted them to YouTube.

I like how just one Pikachu apparently decided to dress up like a fairy.
Maybe he's an officer?
It looks like Pikachu's take on traditional Japanese hair ornaments. You can tell it's female because the tail tip is rounded with a notch in the middle, making it look like a heart (see 3:02-3:13 in this video). The flowers make it more obvious to non-fans. Without them it's harder to tell, though they mirrored the tail. See also spiky-eared Pichu.
Oh, I thought the Pikachu in question was wearing a pair of pixie wings (due to a strange angle in the video featured in this article causing a fellow Pikachu to seemingly block the other half of the wings mixed with the black and white); I just thought the flowers went with the wings (I was aware of the notched tail means female thing, but it's usually a lot more subtle in the games).
It also made some sense that a Pikachu would dress up like a fairy because, though Pikachus aren't Fairy type Pokemon, they are a member of the Fairy egg group.
Small world! At this year's Eurofurence, I met a fur who'd spent time as one of the Pikachu marchers. Apparently the hardest part is the dancing, which is perhaps unsurprising when you consider the situation they're in.
Wow, that's amazing. How did they manage to get that position?
Connections at the Viridian Gym? They seemed reasonably fit, which I imagine is one requirement.
