After a hiatus of over a year, the Furry Music Foundation website is back in operation. This site is a great place to get some of the music produced by members of furry fandom.

A Swiss motorist who thought he struck a dog discovered he had actually hit a man in a dog costume. The victim had earlier attended a stag party and passed out on the road while walking home. He was dragged about 120 feet after being struck but was not seriously injured due to the thick, padded costume.

Walt Disney Co. is being sued in South Africa for infringement of copyright on the song The Lion Sleeps Tonight, which was used in the film The Lion King. According to the lawsuit, the song was originally titled "Mbube" and was written by migrant worker Solomon Linda in 1939. Heirs of Linda, who died in 1962, are seeking royalties of more than $1.5 million. A recent legal move by the plaintiffs attached Disney's other trademarks to the lawsuit; if successful, the trademarks could be auctioned off to raise the funds.

An article in the Tennessean, entitled Fur Factor, gives a generally favorable look at furries. Click on the title to check it out.

Did you ever wonder as a child (or as an adult, for that matter) if your pets went to heaven when they died? Or if there is a heaven for wild animals? If so, check out the article Will I See My Little Doggy in Heaven? in the July 2003 online edition of the St. Anthony Messenger.

This article is likely to be primarily of interest to Christian furs, especially Catholics. Followers of other belief systems can take it or leave it as they see fit.

An anonymous submitter provided a link to this article in the Riverfront Times about furries. It features Tyger Cowboy, a leader of the St. Louis area group UniFursal Zoo, and covers an outing in which he and several other furs went bowling in fursuits. Overall in my opinion, the article is a better representation of furries than some we've seen.

By a vote of 5-0, the city of West Hollywood, CA, has enacted a ban on cat declawing. "We would just encourage our neighboring cities to follow our lead," said Councilman John Duran after the vote.

It is the first such ban animal advocates are aware of in the United States, though onychectomy, as the declawing procedure is formally known, is banned in several European countries. The Paw Project is an organization dedicated to educating the public on the effects of declawing felines and supports abolishing the practice.

According to discussions over on Planetfurry, David "TV Dave" Neff passed away unexpectedly. He was stationed in Saudi Arabia with the military, but it appears his death was due to complications from diabetes.

I was not acquainted with David and don't know how old he was or much else about him, but he was well known and respected among those in the SabrinaVerse niche of the fandom.

For those who may not have heard yet, the space shuttle Columbia, with 7 astronauts on board, broke up on re-entry from its 16 day science mission. It is unlikely there were any survivors. Long range photographs of the re-entry show clear evidence of a breakup, and witnesses near Nacogdoches and Palestine, Texas, have reported falling debris. Given the altitude and speed of the vehicle at breakup, it is believed unlikely to be a terrorist act.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the crew.
