Warner Bros. has acquired film rights to Kathryn Lasky's children's fantasy series Guardians of Ga'Hoole and set it up as a CG-animated film with Donald De Line producing, reports Variety.

The six-book series revolves around a parallel universe featuring a cast of owls and magic transformations. The first book begins with a young barn owl being pushed out of his family's nest by his older brother and then being rescued by agents from a mysterious school for orphaned owls.

Ted Blasingame, creator of Blue Horizon, is looking for an official logo or emblem to be associated with his 7-year anthropomorphic story project.

A contest is running for interested artists to the end of August for submissions, with a complete set (six) autographed books to be awarded as the prize for the winning entry.

Leana Beasley has faith that a dog is man's best friend.

Faith, a 4-year-old Rottweiler, phoned 911 when Beasley fell out of her wheelchair and barked urgently into the receiver until a dispatcher sent help. Then the service dog unlocked the front door for the police officer.

"I sensed there was a problem on the other end of the 911 call," said dispatcher Jenny Buchanan. "The dog was too persistent in barking directly into the phone receiver. I knew she was trying to tell me something."

A California biotechnology company has started taking orders for a hypoallergenic cat for pet lovers prone to allergies.

The genetically engineered feline, which is expected to be available from 2007, is the first in a planned series of lifestyle pets, Los Angeles-based Allerca said in a press release.

Allerca hopes to attract customers among the millions of people worldwide who suffer from cat allergies.

The howling of wolves might be something residents of Tuakau, south of Auckland, will have to get used to.

Ten wolves have been brought in from Los Angeles for filming on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The pack, which includes seven males and three females, is being housed at Mark Vette's Animal Rescue.

Two siblings, Ricky and Bob, will play the key characters Maugrim and Vardan.

Production of the film will move south from November 1, when Queenstown, Oamaru and Canterbury will feature.

Lake County Animal Control officials are crediting a dog with warning them about dangerous smoke coming from an area that contained 10 other dogs.

April Godra, a shelter official, said she knew something wasn't right when Foxie, a normally quiet collie, would not stop barking as Godra made her rounds through the northwestern Indiana kennels two weeks ago.
