Looking something akin to a bird, and not unlike a "bird of prey" from the popular TV show Star Trek, Boeing released a news story on a new stealth aircraft technology demonstrator that flew 38 times in secret testing from 1992 until 1998.

From a National Zoo press release: The Sumatran tiger cub born on September 18 at the Smithsonian's National Zoological Park made its public debut December 27 at 11 a.m. At the debut, the 20-pound, three- month old male cub, named Berani (Bahasa Indonesian for brave) was on view for the first time inside the large glass-fronted enclosure opposite the Bat Cave at the Zoo's Great Cats exhibit. His eight-year-old mother, Soyono, is nearby, or with Berani, as she chooses. Berani is still too young to venture out into the outside yards (particularly in cold weather).

Also, on January 10, 2002, the National Zoo will celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of the Giant Panda Exhibit with Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, followed by Panda Day on January 12.

From alt.lifestyle.furry newsgroup, Nexxus posts about FurNation going down...

OK. Too many furs are calling and emailing me with donations and support.

FurNation is back online (web and FurSearch). FTP access is still offline
until I can figure out this net glitch and correct it.

Now, furs, stop calling me! (grin) :) :) :)

Thanks for your support. I will try to get the finances under control
somehow.

Please, no more donations to the FurNation PayPal account. I do appreciate
it, but I don't know how to do the taxes on it.

Sometimes it takes a few folks to let me know how much FurNation means to
them.

Sincerely,

Nexxus
FurNation Administrator

Report from Northern Virginia Furs group moderator... on the DC situation

First, and foremost, there are currently no reports of local furs who are hurt or injured, however I have already heard that families of some furs have been struck with this tragety.

To them, I speak for many that extend our extreme condolences.

There has been plenty of bad reports on Furries and Fursuiters, but for once, a reporter from the Omaha World-Herald appears to have gotten it right with an interview with their local fur, SnapE Tiger. This positive article not only shows the positive side to furrydom, but doesn't seem to get bogged down in the tabloid sensationalism.
