Trickster's stories

Tue 9 Nov 2004 - 07:50

Unlike wolves in the continental US, Alaska wolves are not protected by the Endangered Species Act. Some people hunt Alaska wolves solely to increase the number of prey species that can also be hunted, which helps tourism.

Alaska as a whole has voted twice to ban the mass-killing of wolves via aerial shooting, where hunters divebomb packs of wolves, chase them until they tire, and shoot them from the air. But last June the governor of Alaska signed a bill to allow it anyway. The practice is about to be expanded to cover a larger area, and may soon include bears as well.

You may visit this link to learn more about the degree to which politicians and hunters are playing god with the ecosystem of Alaska, and what can be done about it.

Morphicon 2005: May 6 to May 8
Radisson Hotel Columbus-Worthington
7007 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43085

PLEASE NOTE: Morphicon's hotel and date have changed since our Anthrocon flyers (see our current flyers here). We moved so we could have access to a much larger space this year! This change is final; we will be having the convention May 6-8 at the Radisson.

Our theme for this year is "Growing Pains". Come help us celebrate many kinds of "growth" in the fandom: the personal, the physical, the social, and the spiritual. Our programming will include free food festivities, several performance events, and panels aimed at a wide array of furry interests--on issues ranging from spirituality to lifestyle to living with disabilities.

Check us out online at http://www.morphicon.org/ for more information about the convention, or to register online. See you next May!

Tigger fursuiter Michael Chartrand was found not guilty on the molestation charges brought against him. The charges occurred while he was working as Tigger at Walt Disney World, a role he considered a "dream". Today, he wants his job back. Disney declines comment.

Tigger's defense attorney is also a professional fursuiter. The DA's argument included an illustration of the hampered mobility of wearing a fursuit, which the attorney demonstrated in court by donning a Tigger fursuit himself.

The jury deliberated for less than an hour before returning the verdict. They said the fursuit defense had nothing to do with the verdict. It was the lack of evidence that decided the case, including the prosecution's inability to prove that Michael was even the Tigger in the photo. Click here for the full story.

Morphicon has concluded, and the convention was a success beyond our wildest dreams!

Given the unfortunate proximity to other conventions, we anticipated only about 80 attendees. When registration closed on Sunday, 120 furries had registered for the convention, 113 of them paid registrations! 115 furries in all attended the convention, 108 of them paid.

Those who registered but were unable to attend con will be sent convention materials through postal mail (including sponsor goodies for sponsors), so they can still have something from us.

Burger King has a new promotional mascot for its chicken items. It's Subservient Chicken, a disturbing, pseudo-webcam chicken fursuit with garters on its legs.

Subservient Chicken poses and moves in exotic, often risque positions, and does...well...pretty much whatever the viewer asks it to. One has to speculate; is Burger King trying to corner the furry demographic?
