Midwest FurFest is pleased to announce its Guest of Honor lineup for 2003!

First off, we have the talented cartoonist Thomas Dye. Thomas is the writer and artist for Newshounds, an online comic strip which can be found at http://www.newshounds.com. Thomas has been cartooning in one form or another since 1991, and we at Midwest FurFest are excited to bring his talent and experience to our convention.

Next up, we have M.C.A. 'Micah' Hogarth. Two of her pencil scribbles appeared in the first issue of Yarf! in 1990. Since then, she's sold stories and art to
magazines as varied as Pangaia, Strange Horizons and the World Tree RPG. Her articles on writing have appeared in venues like Speculations, and her work has provided templates for costume designers and tattoo artists.. Further examples of her work can be found at http://www.stardancer.org.

Midwest FurFest has a long-standing tradition of promoting talent with roots in the Midwest. This year, we have Jeff 'Dbruin' Beedon as our local Guest of Honor. Jeff is a talented illustrator and designer. His work has appeared in past issues of the MFF conbook, as well as on our convention t-shirt last year. Further examples of his work can be found at http://www.furnation.com/deviant/TheDenL.htm.

All three of our Guests bring something unique to Midwest FurFest. We're excited about MFF 2003, and hope to see you all here in Chicago in November! For more information, keep an eye on our website at http://www.furfest.org.

A couple of small changes, tonight. First, you may have noticed the addition of the PayPal Donate button in the menu bar. Donations recieved from PayPal, as well as any proceeds from our CafePress Store go towards offsetting cost of hosting this website. Also, you can link to us using this banner. Very belated thanks to Xydexx for providing it!

Doodles wrote in with this month's Upcoming Furry Comics listing compiled from Previews: "Hello, folks! Another month, another listing. It's a mild month, with a lot of the major publishers slacking off in preparation for the coming Summer."

Click on 'Read More' for the listing.

The TriValley Herald interviewed several Further Confusion staff members, including chairman Lee Strom, for an article
in their Thursday edition. A nice piece, compared to past writeups fandom conventions have gotten.

Doodles wrote in with the following: "For the past few years, I've been posting a list of upcoming comics that would be of furry interest on alt.fan.furry. The list has been based off the Diamond Comics Previews catalog, which lists titles two months in advance of their ship date. Included in the listing is publisher, title, where in the catalog it's listed, listed price and order number from Diamond. In addition, I like to include one or two comments (not always favorable, to be honest) about most of the books. The idea being that if I can get a few more copies of a book sold, it can make the difference between sink or swim, especially for the more obscure titles out there. I'm attaching the list for this month so you can see a sample.

But a.f.f. has a limited reach. Usenet is becoming ever more marginalized and unobserved, and it would be good to have more than one place to post the list. What I'd like to propose is that future listings be submitted to Flayrah for publishing on the website, in hopes that a few more folks can see it and maybe a few more copies can be sold. Would this be possible?"

It certainly is possible! I do have to apologize for taking so long to get the listing up, however. Next month, I'll be more timely about it.

It's January again, which means time to pay the hosting bill! Flayrah.com turns two years old later this month, and we're still going strong. For the last two years, I've paid the hosting fee with our webhost, HostRocket, out of my own pocket, something which I'm fully prepared to do again. However, if you'd like to buy a nifty Flayrah.com tshirt, coffee mug, mousepad, or other item, you can head over to the Flayrah store, run by CafePress. Proceeds above and beyond the merchandise cost will go to defray the hosting cost of Flayrah.com. Thanks for your support!

The site was briefly down this evening in order to upgrade the PostNuke code to version 0.7.2.3. This promised couple of fixes for some annoying little bugs that had been plaguing me. Unfortunately, everytime I upgrade to fix one problem, another appears, equally as minor and annoying. A drawback of using under-development open source software, I think. The current minor yet annoying problem is the lack of proper coloring to the headers of replies to comments. I'm investigating.
