Your point only goes to show how important it is to place cons next to good, reliable transit. A car is a symbol of independence when conventions are located in areas where all alternative options are either absent or incredibly inconvenient. If conventions were placed next to high frequency, reliable transit, the ability to get there via transit vs car would be much more similar. Yes, "just get a car" is a tempting option but remember that not everyone has a car or can drive. Conventions and furmeets represent some of the only opportunities for members of our community to interact in-person. Although everything costs money and this is just a hobby, it is important we make don't shut out people of lower income backgrounds from this great community when there are clear ways to avoid doing so.
