Midwest FurFest actually has pretty good transport from the airport last I checked, because all the hotels have free airport shuttles. Getting out for food might be trickier, although there are restaurants within walking distance (it can be cold and icy).
When NordicFuzzCon was in Stockholm they were in the suburban situation but ran the FuzzBus to accommodate attendees flying in - there was also a train and bus combo to get there, but it cost more and wasn't as convenient.
I seem to recall getting to IndyFurCon without a car involved flying and a couple of buses changing in a suburban location, which wasn't great but manageable. That was a decade ago, though, so they may have moved.
