The funny thing about the drama is so little that was proposed would actually affect the average user. I don't recall hearing any policies would have prevented furs from carrying on exactly as they were. That's not saying all the decisions were good, some were quite stupendously stupid from the start. If Musk doesn't kill Twitter by getting rid of all his dev team, I think the storm will blow over like most drama and everything will go back to normal.

What's a pity to me is that I'd have liked if we could move to a better, free-software alternative but I don't think Mastodon is that. Looking at the way it's designed and implemented, I fear it is worse than Twitter in most ways and will likely make the problem of echo chambers and polarisation even worse than they already are. To quote one review of the Mastodon experience: "In some ways, it seems like Mastodon could become a Democrat's equivalent of Truth Social."
