As someone who has seen the TV series, I can say that yes, it is toned down a bit from the books and movies. Not a lot, as they do still have predators and Efrafa and Cowslip's Warren around, but most of the characters take themselves less seriously, and some of the episodes are just plain silly (in particular the one where the rabbits visit Keehar's home by the sea). There was an attempt to make it darker in the third season, which I personally liked, but I've seen some people despise it over the redrawn character designs and one particular subplot that turned into a deus ex machina at the end.
As far as the trailer goes, I think "action movie" is the just standard trailer-edit these days, though I sincerely hope that's generic trailer music instead of the actual miniseries music. Still, can't wait to see it.
