I thought the movie was fun in a cartoonish pulp way. It's sheer guilty pleasure and I think you should see it for that. It reminded me a lot of e.r. burroughs, but I can't put a paw on any certain story. It used a lot of common tropes. I don't support suing people for that reason (speaking of originality.) Cameron knows it well after being forced to put notorious asshole Harlan Ellison in the credits of Terminator without any reasonable justification - he just tripped himself with a casual statement about general "influence" and allowed an opportunist to use it against him.
