I tend to not take interest in anything in the media but, in reply to what Sonious has been saying. I can half agree and half disagree. Regardless of who they pick to be on the show. We have to take into consideration what they may or may not gain knowledge of, before hand. Meaning, Do they understand that the greater population of furries drowned under drama/speculation/assumption?
No matter what philly does, if he does it wrong and even the smallest group gets butthurt by it, it will inflame and turn into something bad.
Ive never once watched a full doctor phil episode. But, my thinking is that (hopefully, anyways) He will do something legitimate to form some understanding of the outside world that furries arent as a whole, as taboo as weve been painted to be in past years.
Good example being. What brought me to the fandom?
I dislike drawing humans, plain and simple. They are rather boring IMO in comparison to what i can create in the form of an anthromorphic character. In highschool I enjoyed wearing ears on my hoodie. Why? I simply enjoyed the reactions. Be it my friends amusement or the baffled faces of onlookers. The same thing that would happen if someone dyed their hair hot pink, for s**ts and giggles.
In the end, after some friends and piers called me a furry so many times, I looked it up and was very happy to find a community that to some extent, shared my interests. I stuck with it to a point becuase the majority of the people within, can in fact be adults but they still know how to have fun. We go to meet ups, have idle chat about anything from the news, to sports, to pokemon while engaging in adult activities. Be that drinking, smoking, more silly examples..
A furry, as a person in the fandom, does not have to be childish. In my eyes, we simply grasp a childish aspect much longer in life instead of becoming stiff and closed minded. Like a lot of those outside of "strange" fandoms tend to become.
Further jabber aside though. If someone can get on that show, and has chance to explain the fandom (or at least, their reasons for joining it) in some way similar to everything Ive chattered out in this likely overlooked post. I can say Ill be happy with it.
I wont be too awful bothered if the media mucks it up and some tremendous butthurt contest is born. Media aside, that sort of thing happens on a daily basis within the community itself. As example, we will use and not give detail on the load of drama going on on a certain community site this very moment and for the past week or so more.
