Who were Louie Schmitt and Stan Spohn?
Posted by Fred Patten on Mon 11 Jun 2012 - 20:56 —Did you ever hear of Louie Schmitt and Stan Spohn? Amid Amidi reveals on Cartoon Brew that they were the cartoonists who drew & painted the ultra-cute anthropomorphic animal greeting cards for Hallmark from around 1948 for the next few decades.
Prior to 1948, Schmitt was character designer for such MGM Tex Avery animated cartoons as Little ‘Tinker and Bad Luck Blackie, which featured an ultra-cute skunk and other woodland creatures, and a kitten, respectively.
It’s always nice to know who was responsible for the anonymous funny-animal advertising and animation and comic book and greeting card art of the 20th century.
