It's not trying to corner the market it's just removing the difference between the fans and the product. When sci-fi fans produce fan works it's still called sci-fi. Why do we call fan-made anthro works by a different term than those not produced by the fandom itself? Anthropomorphic fantasy is furry by definition (unless you claim something is only furry if made by the fandom itself, which still makes no sense because the furry fandom is the fans of anthropomorphic fantasy in the first place).
