In memory of Dragoneer, I leave this note Dragoneer responded to me back after this was posted 13 years ago:
You do realize there was a lot more to this issue than that one line and a retort by Jurann, right?
Jurann's playing a dangerous game by playing with the FTC rulings, and using that as a threat against the site. It would cover far, far more than merely auctions, but outright cover commissions, fursuits, any sale or trade on FA at all. Not simply auctioning.
Every single time an artist would do an auction on FA Jurann would be there to remind them of their "potential legal problems" and reminding them to use FurBuy, and outright hound them. The sheer amount of complaints we got were huge.
It wasn't some personal war like your article suggests.
I didn't post that at the time because it was clearly a vent that this played too much a centralist take and sharing a PM would be in poor taste.
But to be honest, looking back on this article and this note, how I published this seem a bit campy and cliche, particularly the last sentence. "We may never know what..." I mean, you could try *asking* other people about it, me from 2011.
