Fur Queen and Country
Posted by Diesel on Sun 25 Mar 2007 - 17:00A friend of mine... hell, a roommate, attended a university seminar the other day (shocking in itself but that's hardly the point) on videogame culture, and, somehow, the topic sprung up. Y'know what topic I mean. THAT topic. The fandom.
Now, being as informed as he is (living with me helps the situation no end with my array of posters homaging Cleo from 'Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats' fawnicating the walls), brought it up, and was in turn the only person there to be fully aware of what he was on about. No one in that room of 15-18 20-somethings had a shiny shit of a clue about what a furry was apart from my somewhat embarrassed friend, who's had not one, but two furries as best friends for the past five years (though one denied it, despite being a regular user of FurryMUCK).
I was stunned. I myself had only discovered the art of the furry and alike whilst sitting my GCSEs, but was still summarily shocked by it's lack of outside knowledge in the land of 'Milk and Honey' (or whatever the blue hell you wanna call it.)
It's the same throughout the UK (certainly England at the very least). No one has a bloody clue what it is to be a 'furry', nor what to think of it (even slight mentions here and there define fandomers as merely 'folk who dress up as animals as a fetish', cringeworthy in it's lack of research).
The Round House
Posted by Anon on Sun 25 Mar 2007 - 17:00Hello and welcome to the first ever Site Spotlight, in the debut issue of the Furtean Times. Today the spotlight is on a site which has been consistently popular for eight years, it is based around fatfurs and is still going strong today. You guessed it, The Round House. The site is owned and run by Darkwulf on the Wulfnet server.
Brit TV station plan new furry documentary
Posted by Alexander Grey on Sun 25 Mar 2007 - 17:00It was once upon a daytime dreary did Mosey announce to the ukFur community that there was a television producer in our midst. Who was she? What was she doing here? And was she even real?
Only the next day did the one known as RachC4 introduce herself. Rachael Hardie of RDF Media, working on a new Channel 4 documentary series about family life... and one of the shows is going to be about – you guessed it – furries.
Anthrahsia, by Ember Komodog
Posted by Anon on Sun 25 Mar 2007 - 17:00What if someone said, evolution was only the first step? The idea that humans evolved from apes is a very popular theory, but why is it that only apes have evolved into something greater? Is it so impossible to believe that other animals are incapable of breaking free of their quadruped, instinct-driven lives, and walking on hind legs? What if a dog could stand on two legs, what if a dog could talk? What if a dog could laugh, and love, and hate and feel? What if a dog could be a productive member of society, if he could be a lawyer, or a doctor, or a dentist? Welcome to the real world, welcome to the world we live in, where the theory is no longer a theory, but an inescapable truth. They are the Anthrahsians, and they are real, there is no denying their existence; they live among us, they work, play, live and love. But like all minorities, there are always those who will persecute and hate them.
MFF board plans more rooms for 2007
Posted by GreenReaper on Mon 26 Mar 2007 - 23:00Midwest Furry Fandom board members voted yesterday to expand Midwest FurFest's hotel room block from 300 to 350 rooms on the convention's busiest nights, Friday and Saturday. All the new hotel rooms will be king-size, as the con had already booked out every double room in the building.[1] These measures are likely a reaction to Midwest FurFest 2006, which experienced a 33% increase in attendance over the previous year.[2]
Morphicon Charity Needs Your Help!
Posted by Trickster on Wed 28 Mar 2007 - 13:27Morphicon is currently in dire need of charity donations of art and memoribilia. Our proceeds this year will go to Ferrets Unlimited: a volunteer no-kill shelter which finds homes for abandoned ferrets, and which provides a permanent loving home for those for whom an adoptee can't be found. See Ferrets Unlimited for more information on our chosen 2007 charity...

FC2008 Dealer Room Applications
Posted by Frysco on Wed 28 Mar 2007 - 13:31It's DEALER ROOM time!
That wonderful time is here. It's SPRING! Easter is just around the corner and we are firmly into the year of the pig.
So, if you want a table in the Further Confusion 2008, head over to the Further Confusion website (www.furtherconfusion.org) and to the dealers page. Download the form found linked at the bottom of the page (PDF format only), and print it out. Then fill it out, make out a check for the proper amount and then drop it into the mail NO EARLIER than SUNDAY APRIL 1st, 2007. (If you mail it earlier, you get disqualified, so that date IS important, no fooling.)
Prices this year are no different than they were last year, namely $100 for a full table and $65 for a half table. About the only major change from last year is that we are now charging a small fee for getting you wired up for electricity. That fee is $5. (So $105 for a full table with electricity, and $70 for a half table with electricity.)

The event committee met March 24 and the specific order of business was centered around finalizing the updates to the website including hotel information, reviewing progress on our advertisement for Morphicon and Anthrocon's con book as well as loose flyers, and approving our 50% Programming Grid. (Yeah, I said Programming Grid.)
ArtSpots, JaxPad launch Giclée prints service
Posted by GreenReaper on Wed 28 Mar 2007 - 23:00Spokescheetah Seurat today announced the launch of a Giclée prints service for sister art archives ArtSpots and JaxPad.[1][2]
The service's pricing policy differs from that of competitors deviantART and ArtWanted.com, where artists get 50% of the profit above the base price, with an additional photo printing subscription.[3][4] At ArtSpots the base price is greater; however, artists get all of the profit they set, with no subscription. Seurat also claims a significantly higher quality of output than competing services.
Prints are available in twelve different sizes, from 8"x10" to 24"x36", on smooth, textured (up to 18"x24") and velvet paper, all "archival-quality". Base prices range from $7.45 for the smallest smooth print, to $54.95 for the largest velvet print. They are created using an Epson Stylus Pro 7800, a 2880x1440 dpi inkjet eight-color printer.[5]
